Why don't vendors spawn 999 resources (at least)?

12 years ago most of us were broke. I guess it was sorta exciting spending hours dealing with thieves in Fel to get vendors from 20 to 999. It probably wasn't.

I'm the kind of person that doesn't really have a problem buying things. I've got time and I'm relentless so it doesn't really effect me. I buy from a bunch of vendors at the time and when I eventually get them to 999 I buy enough for a couple of years before I stop, but lots of people don't have all that much time to play uo.

It would be helpful in my opinion for the vendors to spawn 999 or greater amounts instead of 20. I can't see any reason at all in this present economy for spawning minute amounts of things and forcing people to spend many hours farming vendors.

It would be nice, but then again some people make their gold by buy resources and then reselling them in larger lots for double or triple the cost. I guess if you can't fight, there are always other ways to make gold.

I agree that the base amount of resources that the vendors sell should be dramatically increased. Maybe not to 999, but at least maybe around 500.

That way to increase the amount through demand will be a lot easier.

I would say that anyone who's trained imbuing to 120, with the habitual visits to jewellers, will agree wholeheartedly with the OP. ;)

Agreed.

999 to purchase and autorespawn for EVERYTHING.

Huge pet peave when I'm at luna and want to make a few repair deeds for someone and the mages are all bought out of scrolls.

my big thing is ANY form of gold sink (no matter how small) is a great thing. Plus I do like to buy in bulk from an NPC instead of Luna >_<

You are forgetting on big thing. The more time it takes you to do something in the game, means the more time the account is open and being paid for. Which in turn means EA makes more money.

Time sink = money in bank

Another point of view is that EA wants you to play the game more instead of buying a ton of Reagents in one shot and then macroing you skill. In some ways it defeats the purpose of the game.

In the end, I agree with you and even think that afk macroing should be legal as well. but that's me.

Personally I should have been grandfathered in on the macroing rules since they were legal when I first started playing UO. :gee:

i agree, but raise the prices a little. You know, the overhead costs for bulk storage.....

On this, the jeweler in ter mur seems to always be in stock, at low prices (comparatively), and reloads quite quickly. I believe the generic stock I have always found is 500 of each gem.

This would only be true if ALL the vendors worked the same way.

Jewelers auto respawn to 500 instantly, and their price goes up 1gp per unit every two respawns. Just think of the nightmare for imbuers when the skill was introduced if things didn't auto respawn in huge amounts...

Mage vendors always have 500 of each lesser potion, and 500 of each lower circle scroll. (Seriously, who buys these? And don't say newbs, because, well, there aren't any...) Scroll amounts on vendors start at 30.. 30! You can burn through those in less than 10 mins, and then you have to 'work the vendor' to get the quantity up. Then every half hour you have a *chance* at buying what you've waited for.

Leave auto respawn off for things like ore/ingots and lumber - as these are ridiculously easy to get. Turn it ON for everything else.

This would be true if we paid per minute or per hour while logged in. Since we pay by the month whether we are waiting for vendors to respawn or doing something more fun like killing mobs, it's all the same to EA/Mythic. Also, if they make it too frustrating/boring then people are more likely to quit the game.

I think the OP's proposal is great and I hope they implement it. I don't think it would cost any net loss of subscriptions.

Then you could do library turn ins really fast, that is probably why they don't have 999 and instant spawn. I mean you could turn in the 80k bucklers or what not in an hour probably then. It usually takes about 2 to 3 hours to work up enough smiths just to turn them in at a constant rate.

I don't think they should do this. And no, I'm not someone who buys resources from NPC vendors to sell them on to others for double or triple the price...

Call me someone from the old stamp, but MMO's used to be about time / effort spend = gain. This seems like a minor change, but if you look at the bigger picture:

- people who make an effort to buy resources from NPC to make a profit on sales to other people are affected.
- crafters are affected (resources: hides, ingots, boards) as prices will go down.
- treasurehunters who save their herb stacks from their treasure chests are affected.

Just see what adding bone and fertile dirt to the gargoyle mystic NPC's vendor list did to gathering spots like the ant hole. There used to always be people there gathering bones and fertile dirt. Now it's another empty spot, like so many other spots in Sosaria...

I don't want this to come across as a rant, but it sometimes seems people forget to look beyond their personal gain in this game :)

Good point here!

If you have raise umbuing , it was nice to buy those 500 gem every time. but at what cost. If you guy have pay attention, you will notice that every vendor that have 500 items for sale, the prices raise every time you buy, but the one that have 20 items, the prices remain the same, the more you buy the more ingredient are available. It only take a few hrs to get it to go to 999. So when you are planning og buy reagent, just tell you friend so more ppl can help you. I just done it and work great.

They need to fix vendors entirely. They have two competing systems: one where you have to "work the vendor," which is the thing this thread is about (and annoys the hell out of me), and then the "spawn 500 at a time, when 1000 sell, increase the price by 1gp, when 1000 are sold back to me, lower price 1gp" system. Double bonus: the latter system was intentionally broken by Draconi so that the sell back prices are locked at the minimum value, and then he was forced to resign, so now it's stuck that way. This translates to the ability to sell an arrow to the NPC for 3gp, or buy one from him for 185gp.

i don't know why draconi thought it was a good idea to remove the incentive to sell to high priced NPCs. since npcs only buy goods at base price, regardless of their resell, no one in their right mind will sell to them and lower the price.

i use to do merchant runs to the high priced locations and bring their prices down tremendously. arrows were always a good seller, but the high end goods were jewels.
