Why does it look like a rainbow puked in my metal dye tub.

When I claimed the metal dye tub I thought cool....I thought there would be metal looking colors like bronze, or shades of common metals that I could dye my armor.

It looks like the only way I'll get use out of my metal dye tub is if I want my characters or metal chests looking like a mix of colored marshmellows, skittles, and circus midget clowns.

Please for the love of christ tell me you have plans to add more earthen tones.....steering away from the color of fruit loops.

I agree with you. The dye tub should offer every color that's available in UO.

Ehn, its hit or miss for me. I do know it takes a little bit of trial and error due to the hue set up to get the color you want.

I give them credit for attempting to think outside the box, but I would have rather had a metal dye tub that complimented the leather dye tub.

I like them fine personally I don't have any problem with it except the colors are a wee bit too primary.... they are brighter than I like ... I'd give them a bit more gray or black hue.... but other than that I like the highlighting... makes them seem more "shiny"... like polished metal ought to.

And for your information if you set it to default ....... it acts more like a bleach... and turns all metal to iron.

I'll be honest, if used correctly the colors could be cool.

I could imagine female characters using the metals for any of their metal pieces. I guess the male toons could get away with it.....but not without looking like they are about to partake with some dude on dude action.

I think the only use it'll be for me is to have the complete dye tub set again. I might use it to color some metal chests if I can figure out a way to make it not look like lucky charms.

I expected something that covers the uo basic colors or earthen tones.

I think part of the issue here is that they were trying not to duplicate any of the colours available with Tokuno and natural dyes. If you recall there were a lot of subtle metallic colours available in the second version of Tokuno dyes, although personally I would have said screw it and recreated some of those hues. I like the metal dye tub, but only because it is different. I'm not a huge fan of the specific colours.

Weird/unrealistic/bazaar colors arent my thing but they are proven to be loved by many.

If this was not the case then compare the price tag on a glacial hair dye to a hmm pink hair dye. Both has the same drop chance and are not obtainable from anywhere unless you farm Lady Mel.

The colors are all hysterically ugly. Only reason I'm not in the OP's boat is because I checked on Test Center and didn't waste a vet reward on one.

I keep expecting earthy tones but then I never get them.

Like my elves... I wanted them to have a skintone more like ..... wood. But alas it's not meant to be.

My "vision" of my characters is that they are born of the Yewtrees.... sort of. So they should be more the color of the trees... but can't do that because they didn't give us a brown... or wooden tone.... just black of the Drow and an orcish color or two and then... funky clown colors and only one "skin" color.

Also expected gargoyles to have more.... "stonish" colors.... but that isn't meant to be either.

Everytime devs release another dye, the games die a little more.
First tokuno dyes had some incredibly stupid hues and lots of charges. At that time it was supposed to be an answer to the players' demand to have a metal dye tub. The last tokuno dyes were nice but one charge at a time.
Those metal dye tub hues look like petroleum reflections. But devs will certainly show use what references they had for these hues.
I've once been on a private shard with better taste when allowing extra hues.

They really want it to be as ugly as EverQuest 1.

I absolutely agree.
Cartoon like hues really ruined alot of the feeling of the game.
In the old days if you had a slightly colored sandal or weapon used to be really a special object.
Now you can't go Luna's bank without your eyes getting hurt by luminescent and ugly colored items/houses/players.

All in all I think that the metal dye tub is better than the impossibily blazing color of previous cloth/metal dyes.

I like my metal dye tub. I tested it on TC, discovered what I was getting, and then selected it on my primary shard. I like using the same base and shadow color. I use it most to color weapons so I can find my slayers easily. Sure, I too wish it had earthy or dark tones, but I think this was meant to provide accent colors and not defeat the purposes of ToT pigments and Natural Dyes. The one thing I would like to see is the ability to dye Jewelry as I consider those minor accent pieces.

well they were careless with trick or treat and created a big cloth color bug. never hinted or anything at the existance of it as tehy would of teased saying about it when they announced the new begging rewards...

the result is to make a new item to cover up the bug.

same deal as white dye tubs for cloth in pirate ships. that is to cover remaking a bugs for a long time ago.

easier to make a new item than delete or reset and that avoids giving the advantage to the players that used the bug a lot. i guess i get it but be more careful rolling out the items or events initially.

The colors in the metal dye tub is awful I agree. Atleast add some "legacy" metal colors like the verite or bronze...

The hues from the metal dye tub are the same as the hues of the cloth avaliable from the trick during Halloween. While these hues look interesting on clothing, they are beyond hideous on armor.

I saw someone who was going for purple, but his platemail suit came out salmon colored.

I put one of these tube out for public use at my rune library, but I seriously doubt I will ever be caught wearing any of it...

Guild mate left a couple of dyed metal chests on my stoop the other night.. I quickly deposited them in file 13 due to my fear of some kind of exploit.. that and they were horrendously ugly! I'm sure there's a market somewhere for them, it's just not for me.

new dyes look good, if you want the old dull colors- then make armor from that material or use pigments, thanks

I think it's funny the disconnect the board warriors have from the actual people who play UO. This forum is the only place I see people complain about colors in UO.

Don't like the tub? Don't friggin pick it. Seems pretty simple.

I'm largely ambivalent about the stupid colors other people paint themselves, now that crafted natural dyes let me look good without spending millions.

Still, those metal dye tub colors are hideous and silly. I don't see anyone else wearing them either.

I'm sure girls who're at the My Little Pony phase will love them. Great if you like to look like a girly girl, not so great if you wanted the burly warrior look :D

A metal dye tub should have a balanced range of colours to appeal to different tastes. The colours are very pretty and I like them, but I wouldn't wear any of them on an actual character. They just look too "little girl" to me. I'll stick to the colours I have already between tubs and dyes.

Really all the Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Only a bank sitter will be seen in the cloth or armor colors. Who out there that uses armor is going to take off that uber robe/shroud/cloak/apron combination to have the colors seen. About the ween cloth, surprised there are no elf/humans on here crying its not fair gargs can make cloth armor. Hell even the wedding dress cloth items made are to be seen and no replacement for the mod stuff.

The only players that could look cool in dyed armor are those lucky BOD collectors. Those that could burn up 150+ Val runics for that over the top sammy armor matched set. And still get covered by robe, cloak & apron

It was no easy task collecting the ween cloth unlike the game mechanics abuse to get the white cloth dye tub. The tub could dye that fav apron but making one from ween cloth would catch 1000th the gold over the CC.

It is all deco so lets get rid the rest of the show and no go stuff in UO. They are stuff to wear to an auction and not a champ raid.

*Custom houses that have no care in keeping with a classic look.
*Unicorn and KiRin boost them so a pair are as useful as a pack of polar bears or get rid them.
*blaze Cu and other off ore color Cu's get random ore color.

What will curb those with sensitive eyeballs is a new game option. Set to "on" and everything in the game can only be seen in its natural color except anything dyed with the black dye tub. Let the lemming march start lining up over there ------------------>

oh I don't know I kinda like to dress up all nice to go to the auction house... Is that so bad?

And while yes some of the colors are rather disgusting they aren't 'all' bad.

I think selectable metal colors should = leather colors

And no, it's not that simple. I still remember how first tokuno dyes made my game so ugly, even if I didn't use them. One day or another I will end up modifying my hue file, even if it's forbidden. Apparently devs are like kids, you can't tell them not to touch the unused hues, they'll do it anyway.

It's not your game, it our game and if a whole lot of other UO players like a variety of colors, so be it. If you think the majority should suffer for your personal preference, I think it is you who is being the child.

One player is no more important than another. Nor does anyone here know what the majority of players actually wants.

Which is why an easy solution for the devs would be a combination of these girly shades with the ones from the leather dye tub or similar. Then players with all different tastes get what they want. Not just the 8 y/o girls.
