Why Aren't Books in Ter Mur?

Ter Mur only has static objects.. bookcases have no books, barrels have no items. For something 5 years in development you'd think they'd have created some gargoyle literature for us..

It's just depressing knowing how in UO you used to be able to check every bookshelf for something, only now you can't.

I know it's low on everyone's list of priorities.. but it helps with the immersive nature of UO. It just seems to turn a bit of UO into other games with nice deco but nothing to use.

Well all the new books come from the hunter and museum quests in Ter Mur... so adding books to the bookcases would kinda ruin them as a reward there..

Lots of new literature exists. But the museum collector in Ter Mu beat us to them. He has been stealing every single book off the shelves during server maintenance and giving them out as quest rewards...that #$@?*# !!

The books from the quests were a half-assed addition IMHO.

These are books from Ultima VI simply transplanted into UO without anyone bothering to look at them. Several books make NO sense in the UO world as they make reference to U6 quests and plotline.

There are even books about the Avatar...which we don't even 'know' about.

While I think the book hues, and the general idea behind it, are nifty, I feel that the implementation of original fiction would have been better (Especially since UO gargoyle culture has NO resemblance to the of U6).

Having things spawn in bookcases and containers would be nice, especially for gargoyle thieves - but first the containers in Ter Mur would actually need to work. Aside from quests and mobs, SA contains one of the least interactive facets. Let’s hope this changes whenever they get around to actually finishing the expansion.

You're all missing the point... go to Ter Mur buildings and check the bookcases, you can't even look in them. They're all static. Even empty barrels would be nice, but we don't even have the chance to see that they're empty.

Laugh as you wish with your subservient compliance.. but some of us want the gargoyles to mean more than just quests and quest knowledge.

Lore from random bookcase inspecting is a long tradition in UO and Ultima in general. I want this.

Now that you say it like that, you are right. A lot of the containers are statics. Ie part of the background map.

But if they are going to be empty, it probably saves coding and packet traffic to leave them as just background.

I haven't tested this in a while, but can players steal stuff in containers on non-fel facets?

Sweeney plays siege, so it's a non-issue for him.

But for shards with non siege rulesets, if you can't steal from containers outside fel, it doesn't really matter.

Stealing doesn't matter, I'm already 120.. but the immersiveness of the new lands lacks a bit of something without being to check out random containers.

I agree. They've done this elsewhere too. It's a disappointment that UO is going away from this kind of thing.

They've been getting lazy in their coding and world-building.

They figure it's easier to make everything static than to attach all the proper coding so objects will instantiate properly. I find it annoying.

In any case, books SHOULD be spawning in the bookcases, though you could argue that the Gargs learned from our example and hid all their books from the gangs of thieves that take them out of every building in britannia now and then.
