And only for the past 2 or 3 months.
Agreed.I've got them not on my stratics-related email account, but on my old email account that used to be my UO account related email, and the email account that I use currently only for my UO Accounts. I've not had them on any of the accounts I have used for Stratics.
To me, it almost looks like maybe one of EA's email lists got compromised, maybe one a business partner had access to (remember how they used 3rd parties for some of their promo emails, like the Malas Castles, that kept winners from ever finding out they won, from the spambot blockers blocking the notifications?)
I've been getting emails like that for a while. It has nothing to do with Stratics. As far as getting your email, they basically "brute force" email addresses, by that I mean they simply send out to all possible letter combinations within a certain range to popular service providers. There's no way of avoiding them other than a working spam/junk filter.I have no idea how they got my email, especially since UO is the only online game I've ever played.
This or the organization that provides your e-mail decided to sell the list. You get a crunch for money and you never know what they'll do. I know everybody needs a scapegoat...but I wouldn't go blaming stratics unless you have definitive proof. Proof is not "I have this e-mail and I only use this account for stratics."I've been getting emails like that for a while. It has nothing to do with Stratics. Small time criminals, and organized crime as well have clued into the fact that there is a lot of money to be made in stealing and reselling accounts, or stealing passwords and looting the contents of accounts. And of course some, or all, of these might also be looking to steal banking information.
I somehow doubt my ISP would sell email addresses. They're a large reputable company. But frankly it doesn't worry me all that much. Just checked e-mail and seems I was wrong. Received a WoW phishing e-mail yesterday. Will be contacting Petra with more details.I've never played either game and have also never received e-mails about WoW or LoTR on ANY of my e-mail accounts, including those tied to Stratics or to EA.
I would say this belongs in S&R, all the options for the voting appear to be slanted towards an attempt to slam stratics for phishing emails going to accounts linked to stratics. Now, I said I would suggest it going to S&R, would because all discussion in here kind of discounts his attempt, lol.isnt this more suited for OT forum?
Based on e-mail I received yesterday, I'm very concerned at this point. Not discounting this topic at all. Now, I said I would suggest it going to S&R, would because all discussion in here kind of discounts his attempt, lol.
same NEVER had a wow acct & I get about 10 a day pftI have no idea how they got my email, especially since UO is the only online game I've ever played.
This.Where is the option for yes, it started years ago? Oh wait, ulterior motive for this thread, that's right, lol.
But I have gotten emails for EBAY, WoW, PayPal. Oddly enough never UO and always for websites and games I have no ties to whatsoever.
Ive gotten that oneOMG yes. 2-3 a day. I have seen aion and wow phishing emails for quite awhile now. Yesterday, I got one for LOTR. The really crayz thing is I don't have a WOW, Aion, Or LOTR account at all. I especially love the email threatening to ban my non existant account because I am attempting to sell my WoW account which is strictly forbidden By blizzards TOS. I called blizzard to make sure someone didn't create an account using my email address and they had no records showing that had happened. So now I make sure all these go to spam and delete them. I don't even read them anymore.
And 15% link these e-mails to their Stratics accounts.Looks like 70%+ of us all get these emails.. lol.
