Add Aion to the list, but it has nothing to do with Stratics.

have gotten 2 WoW phishing e-mails(in last 3 months), and i sent them to the dept that handles these. i had an account with WoW for a couple months a few years back, figured i'd give it a shot(wasn't impressed).

i think i've gotten a total of 5 phishing e-mails related to WoW(last one was battlenet),since i canceled account. I even got one for Ebay about 6-7 months ago, and haven't been logged on there in 4-5 years. one thing about the ebay one is within a couple of hours ,after i sent them the e-mail, they had gotten the phishing site shut down(very quick)

Where is the option for yes, it started years ago? Oh wait, ulterior motive for this thread, that's right, lol.

But I have gotten emails for EBAY, WoW, PayPal. Oddly enough never UO and always for websites and games I have no ties to whatsoever.

I've gotten a lot of them but I never tied it to Stratics. This is my only account and I did sign up for a WoW account trial years ago. If you have a common email server, they just have a program that generates variations of emails and spams them.

Not a single one of those mails .. Damn spammers must have deleted my adress from the downloaded email list on purpose! i feel so ignored ...

I use an adress that is for stratics only. No freemail account either.

I've got them not on my stratics-related email account, but on my old email account that used to be my UO account related email, and the email account that I use currently only for my UO Accounts. I've not had them on any of the accounts I have used for Stratics.

To me, it almost looks like maybe one of EA's email lists got compromised, maybe one a business partner had access to (remember how they used 3rd parties for some of their promo emails, like the Malas Castles, that kept winners from ever finding out they won, from the spambot blockers blocking the notifications?)

Agreed.

I have been getting them for over a year now - on at least 10 different e-mail addresses - some of which are not even Stratics or EA related.

Considering there's uber-millions of WoW accounts, phishing wouldn't be too hard - odds of hitting an actual account holder are much better than UO, or other games. Just like Virus's and Microsoft vs. Virus's and Firefox - you generally target the biggest one for better odds.

Have multiple email accounts and don't get spam of any type very often on any of them. None related to WoW or LoTR. Maybe you're not careful about how you use your address.

I have no idea how they got my email, especially since UO is the only online game I've ever played.

I've been getting emails like that for a while. It has nothing to do with Stratics. As far as getting your email, they basically "brute force" email addresses, by that I mean they simply send out to all possible letter combinations within a certain range to popular service providers. There's no way of avoiding them other than a working spam/junk filter.

Small time criminals, and organized crime as well have clued into the fact that there is a lot of money to be made in stealing and reselling accounts, or stealing passwords and looting the contents of accounts. And of course some, or all, of these might also be looking to steal banking information.

the only time I ever used the e-mail I created for stratics was when I went to confirm my account. never logged in since.

I use a different e-mail for every site. very secure.

This or the organization that provides your e-mail decided to sell the list. You get a crunch for money and you never know what they'll do. I know everybody needs a scapegoat...but I wouldn't go blaming stratics unless you have definitive proof. Proof is not "I have this e-mail and I only use this account for stratics."

I somehow doubt my ISP would sell email addresses. They're a large reputable company. But frankly it doesn't worry me all that much. That's what junk mail filters are for.

Just checked e-mail and seems I was wrong. Received a WoW phishing e-mail yesterday. Will be contacting Petra with more details.

I get WoW emails every day. I simply delete them on sight.

The only online game I've played, is UO.

I get those emails on an email acct that is only tied to stratics. I did play WoW for about a week, but used a different more secure email and I don't get any phishing emails on that one.

I've been getting at least one or two for the last 4 months, and as far as getting your email it isn't that hard. They could have written a program that just makes up email address in the send file using the most popular carriers and email services such as [email protected], [email protected], and ect., and then using computers that they have access too they can send off their list. The program then could collect the emails that were bounced back as invalid to remove from the list and those that don't then are valid emails.

None of the above - however:

Bank of America (5 occasions, never had an account)
5/3rd Bank (twice - never had an account)
Paypal (twice - been a member long enough to know garbage when I see it)
Ebay (once - same as Paypal)
Sony Online Entertainment (once - and they never send out e-mails from the parent company, only the individual units)

There were a few others that ended up directly in my spam box that I never bothered looking at. None of them for an MMO, and none of the above to any e-mail address linked to my Stratics OR UO accounts (two different e-mail addresses - one from my ISP, one that I own directly).

The 5 listed above were either in my Yahoo box or my Gmail box, neither of which I use for anything that involves money.

isnt this more suited for OT forum?
I would say this belongs in S&R, all the options for the voting appear to be slanted towards an attempt to slam stratics for phishing emails going to accounts linked to stratics. Now, I said I would suggest it going to S&R, would because all discussion in here kind of discounts his attempt, lol.

Based on e-mail I received yesterday, I'm very concerned at this point. Not discounting this topic at all.

These 2 places are the only ones that I go to.
Stratics is the only uo related sight I'm registered to, and allow there cookies on my pc. (If I don't I can't sign in)
Uoguide not registered and don't allow there cookies on my pc.( No offence JC I just hate those cookies grr)

I don't face book, my space, twitter, or do any of the other ones that might be out there. To much personal info gets out there when you use these sites, and could be where most of the Phishing Emails might be coming from.

Until tonite I hadn't gotten Aion, but now I have that one to add to my collection! Woohoo!

Except for one for Lineage II (NCsoft - same as Aion) that **might** have been accurate a couple years back, none are any games I even play! <shakes head> Silly, silly people.

I have gotten thes e-mails in many of my mailboxes, and only one of them is associated with Stratics.

Just a quick tip if you have gmail.

You can add +{sitename} you the front part of your email when you register so you can tell where the email really comes from. For example:

If my email address is [email protected] for stratics I would use:

[email protected]

For digg.com I might use:

[email protected]

GMail ignores the +{whatever} and it just goes to [email protected] but you see the +stratics or +digg so you can tell.

You can then sort them in gmail and easily tell where the spammers got your address.

Having multiple emails does the same thing but this makes it a little easier to manage.

OMG yes. 2-3 a day. I have seen aion and wow phishing emails for quite awhile now. Yesterday, I got one for LOTR. The really crayz thing is I don't have a WOW, Aion, Or LOTR account at all. I especially love the email threatening to ban my non existant account because I am attempting to sell my WoW account which is strictly forbidden By blizzards TOS. I called blizzard to make sure someone didn't create an account using my email address and they had no records showing that had happened. So now I make sure all these go to spam and delete them. I don't even read them anymore.

Interesting read all these other replies. I see people saying they get tons of phishing emails. I think at best, I get one a month. And this is from my email account that I use for multiple sites. My other ones get nothing because I don't use it for any websites and its relatively new.

I've started getting them now. I use my personal email addy for Stratics.

I do not nor have I ever had a WoW account. I have received a message on June 1, June 2, June 7 and two messages on June 8.

UO is the ONLY online game account I have. Fortunatly I have a separate email for my UO accts that are ONLY for the accounts.

Something stinks about this....I'm just not sure what it is
