Can hit lightning/fireball and hit area proc from whirlwind? I'm thinking about a black staff with

50% lightning
50% hit area
50 stam leech
50 mana leech
damage

...for use on spawns with opposite slayers and possibly for mobs with no slayer vulnerability.

I could probably do both HLA and HLD, but those are less fun.

I think you'll do more damage with a slayer than you would with hit lightning. The rest of the mods look good for a blackstaff. I assume you are running with 180+ stamina and 0 SSI on the suit or 150+ stamina and 5 SSI on the suit.

So on each WW hit, can hit area/lightning only proc once, or can it proc on every hit?

The suit is 150+ stam, 20% SSI, and if I had to use ash to enhance after imbuing, could add 10% SSI to the black staff w/o wasting a mod. I'll probably go with heartwood instead, though.

Every hit can produce a hit-area effect. So if you have hit physical 50%, then you whirlwind 8 opponents, an average of 4 hit-physicals will happen.

It's SO much better than slayer weapons for low level spawns.

It's the same for hit-spell effects, but in that case, the slayer weapon will do more damage.

Great information, thank you.

One last question -- does the slayer property fall within the 300% damage increase cap or can it go over it? I ask b/c I see players using dragon slayer to solo Stygian Dragon for example, but EoO + 100% DI from gear, doubled from reptile slayer for example would hit the 300% cap easily. I guess I don't know at what point slayer is figured in and then if it can exceed the 300% DI cap. Thanks in advance.

Slayers are counted towards the 300% Dam Inc Cap.
I made a Frostwood Blackstaff for farming Bane Followers for Ophid Rep on my Whammy awhile back, it has Repond Slayer/50% Hit Cold Area/50% Stamina Leech/30% SSI/20% Dam Inc. The Hit Cold Area and Hit Stamina Leech could go off on multiple opponents each Whirlwind, which made for quite a bit of damage from the Hit Cold Area, which will damage creatures beyond the 1 tile radius of Whirlwind.

I use black staffs also (my suit does include SSI but my weapons do). Use the calculator and input your stats. My balck staffs only need 20% for 1.25 swing.
