Whetstone of Enervation question

My understanding is that the whetstone removes the DI on an exceptionally crafted weapon before it is imbued. My question is, why would you use this? Usually you craft and imbue an exceptional weapon specifically for the DI. So if you craft it and immediately remove the DI, why not just buy a regular one from an NPC?

You only get 450 intensity weight from NPC and loot weapons.
You get 500 from exc crafted weapons which means you can fit in a little more on it when imbuing. And in some cases you can get the needed DI from other items so you want to free up the DI slot on the weapon to put another mod there.

If you can hit 100 DI on your suit then some people like to remove the DI from a weapon to add extra mods.

This. Consider this mage weapon with imbuing intensity in parenthesis:

-15 Mage Weapon (150)
Spell Channeling (100)
FC 0 (140)
15 DCI (110)

This alone has an intensity of 500 and there is no room for DI even on an exceptional weapon. A mage likely has no concern for DI so removing it with the Whetstone is the only way to make this perfect item. BTW, many people reforge the -15 MW on a bokuto, remove the DI, POF, imbue, and then finally enhance (using the guarantee tool) with bloodwood to make an even nicer piece. The BW adds 2 HPR and 16 HLL.
