Well I am back to playing UO again after many years, so where are some good places to hunt as a solo tamer in the lands of UO these days?

Thanks

I have recently returned too. I still had regular dragons on my tamer when I returned so I have been hitting up Artic ogre lords and also white wyrms in ice dungeon.
Reasons why I like these 2:

Good gold/loot
Fast respawns
Not much other spawn around so less danger
Regular drag can handle pretty easy with vet while my newly tamed GD is bonding
After my gd is ready, not sure where I will be off too than.

Yea, I am in the same boat, my new GD is bonding in the stables so just want a little more of a challenge.

Champ spawns are pretty fun, i have had couple of goes at them by myself, gotten about 2/3 the way through.. sometimes people rock up to help, other times I die by myself trying :p

Its not to good for gold/loot because your too busy trying to keep your pet from being swarmed or killed from the millions of monsters and you dont have time to loot :p

Have not ventured into doom yet so I can't tell you how hard it is for solo tamer. I think people usually go in groups though.

For a challenge maybe take on some balrons or go to Illishnar and take on the gold coloured "paragons" for extra nice loot and gold and chance at getting artifacts etc. I heard some of the paragons are pretty nasty !

I tried some of the newer dungeons and you need to be in groups to do anything, or I just need more practice, so much has changed.

I prefer something quiet yet fun and challenging, I will try out Illishnar and give those a shot.

The Swoops is a gold mine if you have Disco on your Tamer. Drop him in 10 secs for ~2k gp and chance at minor arty.

Might I suggest the Oni.
1500-1850gp and nice loot. bring a WW/dragon and a mare. good fight and worth the time. there is one Oni just on the other side of the kitsune woods on the point. Its all by itself out there.
( Tokuno Islands)
good luck and glad to have you back.

Bloods in Blood dungeon (the one's near the entry of the dungeon) spawn fast and almost in the same spot as the previous. Providing your pet can take on a para blood (really easy if you can aids/heal at the saem time) they are easy loot. Para's have a chanve at dropping a chest too.

Demons (like the fire dungeon demon room) are very easy to kill, raise fame/karma quickly you can pull anywhere from 40-60k an hour effortlessly if your keen.

If you have a good pet, plain and simple dragons are good and you get resources as well as loot.

In saying all that, I pretty much live at swoops. A bug/bake combo is ideal. I sit here for a loooong time and end up leaving only cause my 2k of bandies or my bos runs out. And if you have any archer friends, they will love the feathers you pull.

For a plain-jane dragon (not greater) I think Oni is about the best you'll get.

Thrasher (Blighted Grove) is also a great source of income if you can avoid Abscess and Coil. Once you get your greater, you don't have to worry much about Coil either (but Abby will get you every time). But it's best to go there with a partner the first time, so they can point out where not to step (and probably how to key Mel, you can do that with your dragon too). You can work up honor from Thrasher all the way to knight as well, which is very good to have.

When you get your greater dragon, you can do pretty much anything.

With a WW/nightmare, dragon/nightmare, or rune beetle/nightmare combo, you can easily hunt the regular dragons, drakes and wyverns in Destard. You have to be somewhat adept at knowing how to get them to follow you if there are greater dragons around and you have to be on your toes for new greaters spawning on top of you if anyone else is in the dungeon hunting them. But it's a good place to hunt, especially if you're trying to acquire leather to donate at the library while training your pets and gaining in honor.

The hedge maze is a good spot for pet training.

The sphynx is another popular spot. Safe, boring, okay gold, usually heavily camped depending on the shard.

Blood eles in Shame or Ilshenar are always fun. Poison eles in Shame are also good.

Rune beetles in Tokuno are good gold. So are the tsuki wolves if you don't feel like dealing with spellcasters. Lesser hiryus in the lower part of Isamu-Jima would also be very doable. You'll encounter an oni or regular hiryu occasionally and of course ninjas aplenty. Your pets will need serious vetting and maybe some help from your mage if you decide to kill regular hiryu. GDs stomp on them pretty well, but I usually have a little trouble with them using other pets, especially if a ninja decides to show up.

If you have an archer that needs arrows, you can also work the champ spawn in Twisted Weald up to the level with centaurs and kill them (no karma loss) for gold and arrows. Or go to the serpentine passage and kill the centaurs. (Centaurs also give a little bit of spined leather.) Can also kill the serpentine dragons there until your karma starts to run out, unless you enjoy dodging pixies. ;) You can kill one of the types of meers for bolts. Drawing a blank on which one you kill. You'll have pretty significant karma loss, so it may not be worth it to you. There's also the whole elemental canyon area you can explore and hit up the poison and acid eles and nightmares. The Justice Gate area is also fun. Or go kill cyclops and titans near Honesty gate. There's also Exodus dungeon past the gargoyle city. Or Blackthorn's castle in Ilsh (better to go there as a group.) Could also buddy up with some friends and visit the two ancient wyrm spawn areas in Ilshenar.

Sorry this is kinda run-on. Tired and it's late. But a few ideas to get you thinking. Have fun.

If you have a pair of Bake Kitsune you can go and do elite ninjas and ronin on Tokuno 3. They spawn quickly and the the bakes get good gains and you can raise vet at same time. The gold is good too. I also do swoops with a rune beetle/mare or bake and it is good gold. Two kits doing arctic ogrelords or blood eles also work well.

Long day of work, just getting on to read all the great choices of hunting, thanks all, will try them all, I am looking more for the adventure then the money. Back when I started UO in 97, it was all about running to coveteous cutting up all the corpses and getting the meat and running back to sell to the vendors to make cash, the good old days as a teen noob trying out his first mmo hehe.

Thanks again guys!

Swoops are a pumped up eagle. they do a good bit of phys damage.
You can find them in the twisted weald (the old faerie ring, in ish, near the spirituality gate.)
you will need to go to the Elf city (located in yew, center of town) and receive the dread-horn quest from one of the following NPCs to enter the weald:
Calendor Keeper of Tradition or Lore keeper Ooula the keeper of Tradition.

learn more about the swoop here:

A very tough, non-magic bird. Hits very hard with a lot of hit points. Located in the Twisted Weald in Ilshenar. My completely trained, high rated Rune and Kit take forever to kill a Swoop unless it is Discoed (10-15 secs). Swoop

Added: MoneyMaker beat me to the post!
