Hi,

I am returning to UO after a break and things have definently changed a little bit. I have one char with the following skills on it:

Eval
Magery
Medi
Necro
SpellWV
Resist

So the question would be, is this template still usable? And can you give me any examples where to hunt with this char and what type of gear to shoot for (what attributes to look on items mainly)? Anything to add on that template or anything to take away and change to something else.

I am not sure if pure spellcaster can do any PVM and if it can, how?=)

Any advices or comments are welcome!

Most Necromany spells use Spirit Speak as a modifier, similar to how Magery uses Eval, changing Spellweaving for Spirit Speak is an option worth considering.

You will probably want 100 Lower Reagent Cost, 2 Faster Casting, 6 Faster Casting Recovery and as close to 60 Resist in Physicial/Fire/Energy as possible. (Just as a minimum.) You will also likely need to use a Spell Channel Mage Weapon to lessen how easy you are to hit. There are a few fairly cheap Mage Weapons that are -0 skill so you don't need extra + Magery skill items to use them effectively. (Staff Of Magi & Swords Of Prosperity.)

Necro/Mage is hugely powerful (with Spirit Speak) mainly because of Wraith Form which allows you to leech back Mana from your spell damage. You can also use Slayer spellbooks, and for area damage the Necromancy spell Wither is good, it hits a 5 tile radius with cold damage, the damage doesn't split between the targets like it does with Meteor Swarm/Chain Lightning. There is also no Spell Damage Increase cap, so huge spell damage, and the ability to leech back Mana means you can continuously churn out high damage.

When using Slayer books you take off your Mage Weapon and subsequently your melee defense (a mongbat can outbox you) so when you're doing this it can be a good idea to use the Magery second circle spell Protection which will prevent you from having your spells fizzled, though it also reduces your Physical resist by 14 to 15 depending on if you are a human or elf (Wraith Form gives +15 Physical resist.) it also caps your Faster Casting & Faster Casting Recovery at 0 and reduces your Resisting Spells skill, which means you are a lot easier to poison. Don't use it the majority of the time just if you have things close enough to hit you that could cause a problem. (Such as Parragon monsters in Ilshenar which you can't outrun on foot.)

Ok, Great! Thanks for the tips.

Starting to build Spirit Speak then :)

How about stats? 100 STR, 25 dex and 100 int is fine or?
