When/What shard was the last "official" granted Player run town?

One of the great features UO used to have was the player run town. There have been many created over time, but it seemed that when the developers/gms got involved and granted these towns special features (fountains, shrubbery, stable masters) that the players were more involved with them across the shards. Now it seems these town are only inhabitated by role player groups and they are kept fairly private to the group only.

Sad stuff really. UO keeps chipping away at what once made it great and replacing it with things they think may help, but really have only helped in the community leaving the game for the most part.

Share your memories of your shard's best/favorite player run town...la

One of the old dev members who left just before or after tram had an other solution to uo than curet creation of tram.

He wanted to give player run towns more power, by leting player towns hire guards and like to protect them selfs. He had that thought becous the thought whit UO from begining was to let players controle all by them self.

So what im after is a way to build player towns and let them create their own enviroment whit npc,s and all.

The last officially supported player run towns I remember date back to 1999. These were the days were Seers and GMs helped to establish those communities and equipped them with special features. They even held player weddings and participated in events.

However, I think there is less need for such features today. Thanks to item lockdown (yes, there were times when items could NOT be locked down inside houses), custom house design, NPCs etc. this kind of support is less needed.

Hail: Many many years ago. Catskills, "SIN" guild. The little desert area west of Honor shrine, we owned 2 large towers, and several houses in the area. We had to, "Force" 1 guy to move away, after asking nicely many times, because we needed his house spot. hehehe.

Cut cloth used to show up on the Radar view, and i spelled out, "SIN" on the tower roof tops. We used to, "Gate" monsters into the area to raise skills for our newer guild members. We never got a Fountain, as the GM that was setting it up for us is one that got fired or something.......Great times.
