When is luck applied?

If you kill a creature, is your luck applied at the moment it's killed or when you first open the corpse?

Also, is it true luck does not apply when receiving quest rewards (like strongboxes in Heartwood, bags from Percolem and Axem, etc.)?

I realize lots of folks have posted about luck being broken, but I'm still curious about the above situations and haven't experimented enough to know the answers.

1. When the creature is killed - as that is when the loot is generated.

2. I've not heard definitive proof, but it is probable luck has no effect on such things, as they aren't "loot" per se.
