what's with the Vases in Doom?

i keep seeing them but i have no idea what if anything we are suppose to do with them.

cut them up to get "Ancient Parchment"

how does one cut them up, ive tried to cut them with my dagger and it only says they have to be in my pack

sorry - should have clarified.

Steal them off the ground first, and then cut with a blade.

"The vase shatters as you cut away the sealing wax!"

They're also great for locking down in your house and placing a pot-less ( is that a word? ) plant on top... I have my red Legends Mesanna gift trees in a couple of them on the floor of the entrance hall in my tower, and they look fab!
