What would you like to see for Halloween?

Halloween is always a special time in UO. Player run contests and events, special game content. Special seasonal themed EM events.
Uo can be frustrating sometimes. the pvp trash talk, the trade channel "get rich luna style" talk, the duping and mythic token debacles, the revert.
Rather than focusing talk on those, i like to keep in mind what i love about UO. And the goings on around Halloween is one of them.

Personally, my favorite Halloween season in game was the ones around 2007ish, where we had all kinds of things going on. Besides trick or treating, there was the quest that involved killing the bone liches (which dropped the conjurer's trinkets and gimiores) and the quest that involved the wall carvings, and killing the spider boss which dropped the small webs.
Plus there was the headless horseman which dropped cursed arties and was always a good time (i love it when nowhere is safe! and it was common to find a headless horseman at the bank)
There was also the graveyards, where twilight lanterns could sometimes be found.
This was all at once, if the devs can come anywhere close to providing that much to do in the upcoming Halloween it would be amazing!

This thread is to talk about what we as players would like to see for Halloween this year, and as a place to post about our past favorite in game Halloween seasons, and maybe the Devs will even see it and add some ideas before October is upon us.

A monumental Halloween event! City invasion on both facets! I'm not talking ettins either! Big nasty MOBs with feisty followers! Bring back the garbs/trinkets then stick them on a mob that pops replicas afterwards..

Trick or treating with a twist! Surprise us!

No guards in fel anywhere for the month!

On Halloween day, lets get some spooky surprises! From ghosts and ghouls!

Just a point on no guards anywhere in Fel.

What happens to Fel blues like me? Resource gatherers and crafters? Is it a case of take it up the arse or go to Tram?

The player named bones in the graveyard should be a year round thing, not just Halloween.
i think it might be currently, or at least at very low percentage. i killed a bone knight in some graveyard while i was farming skulls for deco and got player bones a few months ago. now, i farmed for about 2 hours total and only a handful of bone knights spawned and i got one set of player named bones, so like i said very low percentage.
Either that, or i had cleared out the very last of the dead players that were queued. this was back in march in moonglow fel graveyard.

Something more like halloweens of the period you mention, much less like the last few.

All new trick or treat items. Items you can get by killing common (of themed) monsters of moderate str (like the twilight lanterns, and the black cat statues), a repeatable quest, a repeating group fight of some kind.

Same pumpkins, same named skele's but with some new colors...

I very much enjoyed the crystal gathering that gave us the conjurers robes... But I love a good ole invasion. Loved the skeletons and would like to see that return. Really enjoy Trick or Treating and I hope they update the goodies.... All new candies and items would be awesome and I rather miss the "evil twin" of years past.

As for things we'd like I suggested this last year or the year before but I think it'd be cool to have the killer pumpkin as a container... One you can put stuff in and when someone walks by it goes all jack in the box on them and the head pops up and "scares" them.

I also enjoyed the event of killing the demon skeletons in the graveyard and getting my Grim Reapers Scythe... And of course as always I like Spiders! I'd like a spider web rather like the xmas tree with the mongbat that pops out I'd like to have a web that had a spider randomly run around on it.

I love the quests the year, where we got the Cats, the Scarecrow and the costumes, I just wish this could be clothes blessed on Siege, as they are great for RP but do not give advance in PvP. If to hard to make them CBD able, then just give us a nw spawn of them, så we can afford losing them for RP.
I also love the bones with name of players who resent died. Maybe skulls with player names or Dev, EM and GM names.

I really love my cats, I could use a few more bats and a custume, that turn me in to a bat like the ones in Malas. I would like custumes, that not use my weapon slot, maybe shoes or earrings

With the names on the bones being such a hit, why not gravestones (similar to what we see at prime evil lich) with names on them and messages?
I like that too, as they would be great as memories for players.

Wouldn't it be niceif they just really just did some deco of the game itself in the cities.....

1) Guards as skeletons

2) Have special npc guards run through the cities at night as the headless horseman.

3) Do halloween deco all through out the cities and NPC shops.

All the old stuff has been great. Tram Khaldun year was very entertaining and if the event chasing sparkles in the dungeons was for halloween it was my favourite. Pumpkins are a must. Kyronix once showed some huge pumpkins he made but they has not been in game.. wanted them ever since !
Very hard to be modest and humble we still can log in when we talk the best period of the year in UO. :next:

There's some great ideas here, but if I had to pick 1 or 2 - I'd vote for bringing back the named bones first - and the gravestone idea is a close 2nd.

For any of you who might have missed the Halloween named bones, here's what we're talking about. If you died in a graveyard, your "skeleton" would spawn in a graveyard somewhere. Whoever killed that skeleton, stood a chance of it having it's "named skeleton" as loot on its body. And these "named skeleton" bones became a 125 item container that you could both lock down and walk over. It was very well thought out, IMO... I think it lasted almost a month. What I did was delete one of my 4 account's chars that I could spare and created a new char with a name that I wanted to get the bones for. I could recycle him after one week with a new name, rinse, repeat... (This year I might just add a 7th char on 3 of my accounts and use them for Halloween).

Here's some of the ones that I got:

The point of such requests, whether they are for something limited like Halloween or total permanent removal of guard zones from Cel, as I think you likely know, is that you die.

Something combat-oriented. If not an full-on invasion then strange goings-on at certain locations, the graveyards being the most-obvious and most-traditional.

There've been several older Halloween events they successfully could recycle with different trimmings and turn into a new one.

I played around with a house holder acc with crappy char,s so I have "a postmans bones" under the mailbox ," a recall miners bones" under the ore carts and at a forge, Mr Bones bones , a vendors bones..and for halloween: "a pumpkin thief ´s bones" at the pumpkin patch. My own chars bones I see way to often all year around so I didnt do them.:p

The past has taught us they are real good at recycling. If they flip the Killer Pumpkin switch. Put a damn Tmap chance on them so a paragon chest chance will happen. If you get the paragon chest spawning as something players like. Toss the rest of the unique holloween spawning critters in Ilsh also with Tmap chances.

I'm gonna borrow from Garfield and Pirates of the Caribbean and request ghost pirates! Or how about a special haunted house sort of dungeon built on Green Acres. I would love to see new costumes but I'd also like to see a means of changing the costumes where they fit in the earring slot rather than the hand. The costumes are fantastic for roleplaying but for the fact they take up a hand spot. I love the named bones, I love the named Jack O Lanterns as well. Actually I have a great love for all the Halloween content that has been provided.

I really liked the concept of that... but they had to make it super grindy and boring. I have no idea why. I stopped after like 3 because it was just bashing bashing bashing forever and it wasn't even a guarantee you would get a named bone drop. They should have either given them high hps and resists with a guaranteed drop OR low hps with a lower chance.

I really hate the amount of grind they have been slapping on simple little ideas to make them last much much longer than they should or need to.

Thats why the ghoul statues and twilight lanterns and cat statues and pumpkin scare crows and ruined tapestries were great.

There should be easy to get drops, moderately hard to get drops, and hard to get drops from regular creatures... and THEN boss drops.

So like for example when you kill a skeleton it has a chance to drop a halloween item, then its 75% chance to be one of the easy to get ones, 20% chance to be a moderately hard to get drop, and 5% for a hard to get.

That way you could choose to grind a little or a lot, and still have fun either way.

Some good ideas in this thread. For me it would be:

1 - Zombie invasion in ALL towns (Including LUNA!!)
2 - Turn the Grim Reaper back on. Nothing like logging in and getting killed in your house :D
3 - Flip the switch back to the on position when it comes to Blackrock infecting. Yeah, I know it was not Halloween but there are still a LOT of boxes I want ;)

Maybe something that leads into the next event arc that I think Mesanna suggested was coming on a UO.com post some months back.

Like how the Magincia invasion, which at the time was sold as being part of the Halloween content for whatever year it took place in, was a prelude to the Warriors of Destiny arc and a foreshadow of the In the Shadow of Virtue arc.

Zombies could be good because they are in the air and if UO's going to make any kind of large scale use of them they better do it this year before everyone gets seriously sick of it and the whole thing plummets and goes back to vampires.

What I'd like to see also is a return of the spirits to haunt area's so we can perhaps gather more threads... I honestly enjoyed that as well.... maybe the spirits could come back to haunt us?

I think I'd also like some new costumes... Perhaps things like vampire bats, Skree's, Undead Gargoyles, Corpsers... and maybe the Fairy Dragon.

Oh and I still say it would be MOST awesome if you put a Pillory/Stock at each city bank and make that part of your "Trick" when Trick or Treating so then folk could throw "tomatoes" or something at you. Would be fun.

Instead of just getting a bag of treats, why don't we put a system in where we actually trick or treat. We can go up to NPCs with an item that lets us "Trick or Treat" them that only works on October 31st (from server restart to shut down). It could be a pouch or something and the item goes in the pouch.

Items could range from snacks to food, drinks, potions, and other stuff like that with a chance of a few rares thrown in as well. The rules would be that you can't Trick or Treat the same NPC twice, though, but you can get all of them.

Don't throw anything super amazing into the mix, just a bunch of fun stuff to make Halloween enjoyable.

They have been doing that for every Halloween for quite some time now, and I would imagine it will be included again this year. Anyone can walk up to an NPC say "Trick or Treat" and get a treat or tricked (evil twin gets created and attacks you or steals your candy, you drop blood from you when you walk etc). Those with begging skill have a greater chance of getting one of the rarer treats too tho. Only reason I trained the skill lol.

The Pumpkin patches are a must-I have two years worth of masks taking up all my lock downs in my home and look forward to adding the third year. (I spent hours in the pumpkin patches)
I also think they should make each shard different with special items-Its scary to walk on some shards and not see players (I am Atlantic born and bread)
Of course Bennu Birds are the scariest darn things, If they chose different cities during the month (including Luna) where your not safe even in your homes)
I would also love to see a scary story telling session, Maybe include us as players to interact.
I just saw World War Z the movie, can you imagine that much spawn?
October is the best month on UO!

NPC's in all towns turn into rotting corpses and attack! (you could still buy stuff from them though)

Vendors of Luna become rotting corpses and attack!

Mannequins on all facets turn into rotting corpses and attack!

Parrots on all facets turn into rotting corpse parrots and attack!

Good idea! Trick-or-treating is pretty cool. You can get all kinds of candy and rare items like murky milk and creepy cakes and spider webs. They have different other rarer stuff every year as well, like skulls on a spike and mini guillotines.. And the npcs will occasionally trick you, by blowing you up or spawing an evil twin version of you that tries to kill you. You can do it all month though.

Its good fun. :p

Actually I was talking more jut like deco but we do have broom mounts in GW2 :) We also got a broomstick mount if you bought the witches and/or Mad King costumes in Halloween of last year. I can't see why they couldn't add such a thing to UO because the art is already there and the mechanics wouldn't be that hard.
