What the... Magincia??

I am a returning player, some of you know that by now. I have set up a small abode on an island and travelling meeting some guilds for one to join. No problems so far. I accept a quest in Yew, the "strangers bearing gifts life" quest because I feel I need a bit of direction in my life and so I head to Magincia for good old fashioned island life and find these restless souls I have heard about.

I dock my ship in Maginicia North after coming from Buc's Den. I've been sailing a lot and marking a lot of runes you see. I walk, I walk a bit more, and still no buildings, "wow, have I got the right island?" I say to myself. I find nothing except a player house (with a fence around it- europa) and then the monsters appear. Suspicion gets the better of me, like it always does, as I couldnt find anything on stratics about this disapearance of Magincia, and so I go for a closer look. Turns out, Magincia is no more.

• So what happened to Magincia?
• How do I complete the "strangers bearing gifts life" quest
• and... who exactly is Derrick?

Magincia was blown to hell (and lots of collectible pieces) back in 2007 (the current occupants are tied to the one who orchestrated the original invasion). The events are analogous to Ultima IV.

The rubble's been bounced several times by invasions since, one of which was the ones that the soul types came from, in 2008.

The restless souls have been gone for a year. The quest giver remains for those that have a cloak of corruption and the threads of life needed to convert it to different robe.

the only way to get the cloaks or the threads is off someone's vendor. Abandon the quest and find another to do.

Eventually Magincia might get rebuilt...just takes its time

I didnt take a house placement tool and try, that was not my intention, but I am assuming due to the lack of real estate that players cannot build directly in the main mass of Magincia. Is that fair to assume?

You can't on most of it. There are maybe 3 or 4 plots on the far west end of the island, and thats it.
