As it seems very difficult to motivate people to come to public events organized by players, I couldn't help but wonder: Do we waste our time in general, or do we hold the wrong kind of events?

From the list below, please select the events you would try to attend.

None, because you didn't post a list. :mf_prop:

In a serious note, I am so tired of auctions. They were cool when rares actually meant something, but these days most of the junk you find is not worth the time.

EDIT: Ah, there is the list.

I've tried to start a BagBall league.. tried to hold Siege's first battle chicken tournament.. all failures.

It's because of my name though, not the shard.

I forgot to add Bagball and trading events to the list. But honestly, I haven't seen a single bagball event on my shard in the past 2 years.

There's a pretty cool bagball competition "track" on the Formosa shard in one of the fields west of Britain (Trammel) (at approximately 5o 5' S 9o 21' W). Looks like a fun place to have a tournament. I bet someone could duplicate it on a somewhat smaller scale or with different dimensions on an 18x18 plot.

(Note: I just realized that for some reason the enhanced client doesn't show some of the walls on the east end of the track. In the legacy client, the east end is blocked off with more walls and there's a box where it looks like you either begin or end the competition. There's also a small table set on the ground completely outside of the walls. Will try later to get a more accurate screen shot, although this view makes a lot more sense. In the legacy client's view, it's hard to see how in the world you actually get in the track to begin with because none of the outer walls have a door in them and you can't teleport in.)

Most of the time, for me, it is a timing issue not the type of event. I have two 4th graders in the house (Boy/girl twins) so my evenings are pretty much spoken for until after 9:00 PM ET at the earliest and the same goes for weekends. I do play at other times, but with the T.V., kids, wife and pets I am hardly focused on the game or in a position to fully participate. This is not an issue with the event or the organizers of the event, just the way my life works. We all have such challenges I am sure.

All that said the month of December is particularly difficult with the extra Holiday related goings-on.

My answer, as you probably already know Cap'n Pike, is YES!

If time permits, I will attend ANY in game event. But since my in-game time is limited, and opposite of many of our shard-mates, I can't attend or run most of the events I would like to.

The last events I have attended are:
Low-end-gear tournament
EM Felucca event
Public Harrower
Market night
Casino night

My next two planned events are next year (Holidays prevent proper event attendance), and are a full-gear tournament and a market night.

I can't say as I've ever been to a player run event. As a matter of fact, the only "events" I've been to have been various stages of story arcs, normally the big part such as the beginning of the Magincia or Moonglow events.

Thank you for the poll hawkeye. Do you mind if I use the results to share with my community on Chesapeake?

I noticed timing on some events are touchy. People should remember if your only doing events say after 8pm on your shards time zone you are still missing a major part of the community that may not be on your exact time zone. Such as those who play somewhere between 10am and 7pm

If you want to be at Pacific player run events I know on Wednesdays 8 or 9pm EST Sage runs a tavern night.

That would be nice, but I'm normally not on that late, which is probably why I've never been to any events.

I voted for "Sea Battle".

I've not seen good sea battles, lot's of ships, mages and archers on deck in... oh, a very, very long time.

There will be a sea battle on Catskills in January. However, how big it will be depends on the number of attending players. From my experience, I would estimate that we won't have more than 2-3 groups/ships. Most players have forgotten or never cared about how to navigate a boat, and the server population seems to be shrinking.

I'm still waiting for the shuffled deck of cards. And the option to deal the next card face up or face down. Shuffle box produces a fresh deck wiping out cards from the last deck from the box.

To keep the game clean there could be a card table. First person parties to the table and invites others into the party that will be able to view a table window. Anyone opening the card table window not in the party has a view but no interaction. Chip option for a little UO Holdem. If not chips a set spread of ingots or boards could be used by active table members.

In keeping with the holiday spirit, I would like to see Public Floggings added to you list.

Perhaps it might be best to ask this question of the shard you play on to get a more accurate poll. If you are having a poor turn-out of events it could be the type of events or it might be your shard's population. Figure out your target audience such as rpers, non-rpers, both, etc and tailor the events to match their interests. If you want to host a large scale shard event, probably going to have to toss out a significant amount of gold to get folks interested.

One reason certainly is the shard population. It was intended to post this on UHall, because I want to get feedback from as many players as possible to get a more accurate result.
