What kind of computer do you use for UO?

Today I decided to upgrade my PC, and it got me wondering what everyone else uses, and what they use it for.

The game would sometimes lag up when I was fighting someone.. I was never sure if it was network lag or my pc, but I decided to upgrade anyways. Most of the PC shops local to me have stopped carrying DDR memory, so I decided to buy as much as my system could hold (2GB), while they are still available.

so as for the questions... What type of computer do you use? and what (UO) activities do you participate in? If you don't know the exact specs, just say what you do know (like Pentium 3).

My system:
Athlon XP 2.2Ghz CPU
2GB DDR RAM
40GB IDE Hard drive
Geforce4MX graphics card
nforce2 motherboard

I mostly just PvP around the Moongate, Buy/Sell/Chat around Luna, fighting Champspawns and sometimes Peerless.

I use a dell Xps720 I bought for about 3.5k less than a year ago.

It runs a intel quad core extreme.
4gb ddr3
300gb sata HD @ 7200rpm
Dual Nvidia 8800gtx
Plus other things that come on most cpus like burners drives excexc.

I PvP. but need most the resources to play more grafix intense games. other than that I have either protools, cakewalk or my cad programs running.

Motherboard: ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
Chip: Athlon 64 3500+ 2.1Ghz
RAM: 2GB PC3200 DDR

Hard Drive: Seagate 500 Gig SATA
Monitor 1 (Game): Samsung 226BW 22in Widescreen 2ms response

Runs Kingdom Reborn nice, crisp, and smooth with very few crashes or performance-based problems and the dual monitors makes digging through and comparing XML/LUA files easier for modding.

UO activities: KR UI modding, mid level solo PvM, mining and fighting ore elems, smithing BODs, and participating in Dev run events when I feel the desire to do so.

In all seriousness, I use a Dell Vostro 400 2.2 GhZ dual core with a nvidia 8300 GS card. I have 4 machines with 2D & KR installed (including a Vostro 1400 laptop with 2 GB memory and nvidia 8400, but a slower processor than the desktop), and two dinosaurs (4 year old HP 2.93 Ghz Celeron, 1 GB memory, Nvidia FX 5500, and 8-year old Gateway P4 1.4 Ghz with 1 GB RDRAM & MX 4000 video card). believe it or not, both the old nvidia cards run KR fine.

All-around workhorse...treats me well. :] Sometimes I will play Eve Online and UO at the same time...in that case, UO goes up on my secondary P4 3.2Ghz HT rig w/ a Radeon All-In-Wonder 9550. Thinking about swapping that out for an Asus P5P800 w/ a Pentium D 805 just cause I really wanna see for myself if those things can hit 4Ghz x2 on air!

P.S. - Oh yeah! Both rigs work just fine for peeveepee/spawns/banksitting on a server that's on the opposite side of the country. Obviously, shopping in Luna = lagggggg. Running 2d 4LyFe!

It didn't come with a good graphics card so I bought a GeForce 5500 card. Had to swap that out into my older computer because Ubuntu didn't recognize the graphics card.

Most of the PC shops local to me have stopped carrying DDR memory, so I decided to buy as much as my system could hold (2GB), while they are still available.
Check out the websites for Best Buy, Comp USA, & Fry's. I got a 2gig pack of DDR Ram from Best Buy for $89 when it was on sale, and this wasn't all that long ago. They still carry it, so if you keep an eye on either of these sites, you'll find some good deals. I picked up a 400w Power Supply from Fry's on a huge sale they had on them, that only cost me $4.99 + Shipping after I mailed in the rebate form. It's pretty hard to top that.

To answer your question:

HP Media Center w/Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
AMD Athlon 64 3800 2.4 ghz
3 gigs DDR Ram
200 gig HD
ATI Radeon X1600 Pro 512 mb Video Card

I built my Computer for $500 about 5-7 years ago, with a couple upgrades along the way.

1.6 AMD Single Core Processor
1.5 GB RAM
256 AGP Video Card (my Mother Board doesn't have any PCI-e slots)
~120 GM HD
500W Power Supply
Dual Monitors: 22" flat panel monitor as the main, and an old 17" CRT to the side for additional workspace.

Surprisingly, KR runs alot faster and alot more smooth than a tweeked 2D. I use KR ~90% of the time thanks to that performance increase and KRs additional functionallity. I do everything from mid-high level PvM(KR) to resource gathering(KR) to crafting(KR) to RPing(KR) to running a small Vendor(2D) to Decorating(2D).

I have two computers sitting side by side (well the screens are about 3 feet apart).

22" Wide Screen Samsungs. (one is actually 21.6" Wide Screen)

3.2GHZ Pentium
2GB Ram
300GM SATA Drive
4GB Flash card for the pageing file.
NVIDIA 6200 DDRAM 2 (one is 128MB, the other is 256MB)

Windows XP Pro.

All these computers are for is to run MMORPG's and that at the moment is UO. They do nothing else, except a system integrity check on Fridays followed by a complete backup.

If that was directed to me...

I hardly ever crash while PvMing in KR. I started crashing a bit while doing Melissa so I jumped on 2D only to experience the same thing. I've crashed during the death transition a couple times, but by then I'm already dead so not much harm there. The fact that KR shows exactly where healers are it was actually still quicker for me to restart KR and go directly to the healer than trying to find one randomly.

It seems I am lucky with my older computer, because I don't experience some things that other people have bashed KR for. It could be that I don't put as much merit in some of the bashed things. For me, the pros greatly outweigh the cons. I still use 2D for a couple things like dropping items onto the Spring Cleaning NPCs(KR is a bit fickel with that) and when I'm stocking my vendor.

If that was not directed at me then... nothing to see here, move along, move along...

Yes that was directed to you. Something is strange that you're not crashing. I'm not the only one that has this problem. It only happens if I stay on the same server for more than an hour. I'm just wondering what the difference is with you vs others that are experiencing the regular crashing issues.

I can top that! I was running UO 2d on a dinosaur P3 733 mhz until very recently, when we finally were able to buy a new machine! This new one has dual core pentiums at 2 gig each, 2 gigs of ram, integrated Geforce graphics (I hate), with a bit of room to customize and upgrade soon. It runs KR with no problems at all. Before, I couldn't even install KR. The graphics are DirectX9 based, so I won't be able to play any DirectX10 games very well, but compared to what we had, this one rocks! I'm loving it. I actually don't play UO much anymore, but it's more fun with a better machine. We have 6mbps DSL that is lightning fast. I have very little lag with anything anymore, including UO. We are seriously thinking of buying another $500 machine like this one and playing WoW together. This system came with a widescreen monitor and a printer. When I get enough money I'm going to build my own top-end system for doing graphic art (and games!), since I am going into that field professionally. I love Windows Vista! And I thought I'd hate it. Go figure.

Thanks.

The two video cards work together as one card.

Frm what I understand, one card renders the top half of the page and the second card renders the bottom half of the page.

It's like having two processors doing the job of one, similar to a CPU.

Nothing too fancy.

That's my main, I got another 4 which lack the dual 9600GT, only got one in each. Also 1 HD instead of 2 and 19" Monitors.

I'll soon replace the 9600's with the new fancy NVidia ones.

I use those for LAN and online gaming, music and video, 3DSMAX, XSI and Photoshop.
