What is antique?

People dont understand it. I dont understand it.

If anyone has an antique thing on test (not copied, i tried that nothing copied can be powdered)

Just trying to figure out exactly what it is. maybe a dev could help clarify.

If this is an item that can last for years its overpowered.

If this is an item that can last for years its overpowered.
Kyronix has stated they will be looking at and very likely toning down the gear found on the Wisp @ Despise + also toning down existing Ephemeral/Antique items on Production shards.

For testing purposes, I have copied over a bunch of putrid hearts. Smoot if youd like to hop in vent and grab some, you could go test it by buying something off the wisp.

Im my playing with a sword I got off the wisp, its durability is going down in a shorter amount of playtime than my regular sword is. It isnt anything like 1 durability on every hit or anything.

Powdered it once, and it went to 250 like described in the notes.

** It just went down 4 points from fighting 1 monster. It seems to have a chance to remove more than 1 durability at a time.

** I am now at 236/250

** Now at 228

ahh ok, i thought "increased durability loss" just meant the minus 50 every powder, no regular use. if it is losing durability that fast and can only be powdered up 3 times then it wont last long. still comparable to ephemeral, could use on a character you play maybe an hour a week, but not a daily / intensively used one.

My durability on it is now down to 200/250 (I forted it once to try out).

So they can last a little bit if you only fort it when you need to, and keep up on repairs. You will be repairing it alot more often than a regular armor piece

So pretty much that'll make a lot of shame loot not worth as much as it is right now besides splinter weapons?
Its only for items which have the Antique property, which is the replacement to ephemeral.

i dont think so. if it wears out as fast as solus says, i definitely wouldnt build a suit around it. which i think was the devs intention, its meant as affordable starter gear like ephemeral was. a stop-gap until you can hunt for / afford the real thing.

Well, within 5-10 minutes, I lost about 50 durability (Not max durability). So my weapon would have been 200/255. As long as people keep up on repairs and fort only when needed, you can get some mileage out of it.

I plan to log in again and go afk fighting Grigorio and see how much durability I lose after a set amount of time.



** Bug - Logging back in , my weapon reverted back to 255/255. When I had logged off, It was 200/250

** As of 5:13 I have started combat at 250/250. I will post updates with timestamps on durability loss

I wonder why they didn't just keep loot the way it was, and just add it all over as it was planned?

Now we have new negative properties, some don't has as much as others, I absolutely love Prized (costs more to insure/can't be blessed) pieces. and the whole Unwieldy (item weighs 50 stones) pieces as well, but wouldn't have been much more simple to just keep the 4 negatives (Cursed, Brittle, Cannot be repaired, & -100 luck) ?

If the intent was to bring more life to the wisp vendor, why not only change ephemeral?

The intent was not just to bring more life to the wisp vendor. They changed ephemeral with Antique while they were at it, but that doesn't make it the priority.

The new negative properties are much more thought out, and usable. No one used cannot be repaired, -100 luck was just useless, and I could go on.

It's definitely more useful, the problem is it may be Too useful compared to the old system.

It would be great if a Dev would clarify, if the chance of getting 100% "clean" legendary is the same as it was, or is it Easier/harder in pub 86?
Because of the accessibility it would be easier, even if nothing changed besides this new loot being available everywhere.

Edit: I should say, since you can only have a maximum of one (1) negative per item now.

As of right now (subject to change) - the higher intensity an item has, the greater the chance a negative property will be applied. Minor Magic Items, Lesser Magic Items, Greater Magic Items, and Major Magic Items have the best chances to be generated clean. You have a higher chance of getting a clean legendary artifact, with the exception of jewelry, in 86 vs. what's on production.

But, weapons break faster than armor and that's 2 hours of non stop hitting so that's really about regular? I'd have to repair my poison weapon in roughly 3-4 hours when training. But with you being able to repair it, that means you can keep an antique suit up pretty easily and it only seems to be breaking at 2x the speed. So i'm not really impressed :/ that's going to hurt anybody that farms shames besides splinter weapons.

^^ That ... no more getting -100 luck, cursed, brittle, all one on item, either. No one ever liked -100 luck. Worse than cursed. Hope it's gone for good.

If they retroactively nerf former ephemeral items I will be unhappy, but the way things are going with re-vamp loot, peerless hunts and the like will all but make up for the changes. The scales will tip, however, and loot will once again be much, much better than anything you can craft, but most of the good loot will still be subject to imbuing.

as much as i like good loot, i dont think there should be a better chance at a perfectly clean legendary than we have now.

reasons why:
loot will be global so this stuff will be much easier to come across overall
before we had 1 negative property that was very useable on higher artifacts (-100luck)
Now we have 2 negative properties that are very useable on higher artifacts (the high insurance one and the heavy weight one)

So just from implementing these changes, it already increases the chances for a useable legendary.
I think actually increasing the chances at a clean legendary would be too much.
remember these artifacts are supposed to be just that, something rare and unusual to find.

I don't really get why they got rid of the luck one. Makes no sense. Antique just seems like a less restrictive brittle. Maybe they thought brittle was too sever to see any use? Dunno.

iam afraid whatever they do with weapons and armour will only confuse people more....simplification is whats needed certainly not more depth ..try explaining ....this one small part of the game to a new player....far too complex...they leave b4 they even get started proper.

The luck one was completely useless. Why keep it, when you can replace it with another negative which actually does something?

I mean, you can basically get what they do from the name itself. If THAT is hard to figure out, well then I dont know what to tell you.

Well, Massive is pretty useless as a "balancing value" since nearly all chars have str at 100+, so it will fit to all templates. I fear that we get an influx of unbeatable items with insane intensities pretty fast, so we will end up running around in maxed suits. Hopefully, they will balance the system making it hard to find a high intensity item that will be usable.

Massive takes 125 STR, which is fairly significant unless you can reduce STR req. on the item.

Iam talking weapons and armours in general.....they are indeed far too complicated for a casual gamer

Yup if I causally start a game I'm on the edge about playing, and it just comes off complicated as hell, it's a big turn off. I was put off as an old player returning at all the changes. Got ripped off on a lot of stuff I never would have bought if I had known what I was doing. There's a lot to know in UO. The more complicated and confusing you make your game can be a real turn off. Sure there's a lot of depth in UO which can be pretty cool. But it's a 2 edged sword.
