What is an animated weapon and how did it kill me inside my private keep?

I was inside my private feluccan keep, and a blue character named Taizan ran by. he left and then a red character named Apocolypse returned. Then something called an animated weapon with the same guild abbreviations killed me inside my keep on the lower level.

Is this an exploit? Should I report Apocolypse? I thought it was illegal and impossible to kill someone inside their home if it was private.

It's a mystic spell and, I believe, the only current use for it is to attempt to kill people inside a house. The best defence is to no go afk in your keep or at my house beside Napa yew gate(I can't tell you how many of my guildmate's have died like this, sigh).

report it as a bug. they fixed the ability to cast other summons in houses (natures fury, RC, etc) they should have fixed the animated weapon too.

Place carpet down you can't cast animated weapon on it.

Yet another reason that this is not thought of as a quality forum. Mods here are inconsistent to the Nth degree. I will give them a little credit, they are marginally better than the people who post here.

personally I preferred poison fields on my nox mage

but yeah, animated weapons aren't a glitch, you can simply summon it and click on the upper floor by the stairs and poof, it appears, goes down, and they all die. Caught so many people afk scripting like this, and it's a double whammie on siege because when their body times out their armor, any artys, etc...is GONE.

Aye it is a mysticism spell, just not quite as annoying, as Divine Fury used to be when those entered homes !

First time ever I saw it used was on Chessy, at a Paxlair meeting in Paxlair.

I found it rather entertaining, since I had not ever seen an animated weapon flying into the top floor of a large tower before, looking for victims to exterminate, until that night, a couple of months ago or so.

So I learned two things that evening, 1.) that animated weps can be used to fly up and attack us in a home, and 2.) that old man Winfield can & will continue his Paxlair speeches, even when he is CUT DOWN and DEAD by animated flying weapons ! LOL rolleyes:

I agree with you. It's just noticeable that the post doesn't suffer if he omits the names. IF it is deemed an exploit, then he somewhat recklessly violated a rule, IF not, then que sera sera.

Animated weapons are so weak, though. Unless the guy had anatomy or something, I can't imagine dying to one unless I was AFK.

Eh, anyway, it would be interesting if they made it possible for a house owner to sanction off the use of magic inside a house, like a toggle you could use once per day, but then I guess there could be problems if the house ever fell ;P.

Yeah it's irritating, people shouldn't be able to use detect hidden to reveal you or hit you with that other mysticism spell (hail storm I believe) while you are inside a private house either but they can.

Back when I first started playing I hung out with a guy who went around killing afk characters mostly red ones but a blue if he knew they deserved it. There were so many ways to do it, you could even shoot arrows though a window. Just a guess that perhaps fixing this is not big on the list of things to do since it is a minor nuisance unless you are a macroer and there are in game options that you can do to avoid those problems like carpeting.

Oh wow, now this would be sweet in EM event buildings. People couldn't spam spells so I could keep up with what the EM is actually saying.. and keep the "esthetic distance ."

EMs can request this area effect from Mesanna, if I'm not mistaken.

Our EMs on Chesapeake recently made a cool beach casino resort. For visitors, it's west of the Fire Island Stygian Abyss Underworld entrance, all the way on the shore. The entire area of the casino is no-spell, in fact, you can't even re-mount an ethereal while in the area.

There used to be a guy on Napa who loved to "sticky" bomb people with entire kegs of Greater Explosion Pots, he'd throw Pots right through the walls/floors of any house, killing everyone within. We used to double wall our guild houses in Fel to try to avoid it, still didn't work. I remember calling and talking to a GM about it, and he said it's legal with customized houses. He did say though that it should be impossible to do it to "classic" houses, and an exploit/hack if they can do it regardless. This was before SA and Mysticism though. Notice how BS, EV and RC can't be cast in a classic house, while AW can? They probably overlooked something when they were designing the Animated Weapon spell.

There is no way to avoid being hit by Hail Storm if your house is very small.
