What is a good middle population shard?

I returned and started on Atlantic cause that has always been my main shard going back to when I originally began. However I am finding the crowding, especially with this current event to be borderline unplayable. Everything is constantly camped and greedy guilds muscle you out of spawn locations by killing stuff you are trying to tame [Nightmare Event]
I was thinking of transferring to a different shard but have no idea what it looks like outside Atlantic these days, especially given how low activity the forums have. I see Catskills and Chesapeake have some decent forum activity but I don't know if that is enough to get a good reading.
So I am am looking for suggestions to see where there are people to play with while not being super overcrowded but at the same time not being a total ghost town. I looked into Origin out of curiosity and wow, running around all over the shard I saw maybe 2-3 people at any given time lol...

Go to each shard. Do vendor search. Exclude gargoyle items. You will see how large of a market can be created by the population of the shard.

GL and LS could be middle. Realize Middle means there are a group of players 5 to 10 that might be on that shard in a specific time frame. The shard will have more players on but they are doing other things.

Right now you can visit each shard and see how friendly the regular players are by them making gates to the boss.

VS is not representative of player base. I'd suggest seeking out shard discords or guild discords if you still want to be a part of a community. There are lots of trammel based guilds on all of the north American "dead" shards. You can also attend monthly governor meetings were said guilds usually have representatives in attendance.

I play across a lot of shards but for average play Great Lakes and Chessy have been my go to. LS and Sonoma are okay too.

I have chars on lake Austin and origin but outside of the event are generally lower population.

Thanks for the info. I am going to do a tour of each of the US shards on my days off, mainly the ones mentioned here and have a look around. An active market is for sure a good thing. Community is another.

Agreed, for the same reason I started using my characters on GL again and was surprised by the number of people I saw t-hunting, doing events or even posted up at the bank.
