What does magery mastery do?

What does magery mastery do on a pet that's different from magery?
I haven't noticed the pet casting Death Ray, so other than teleporting toward a foe, what's up?

They do cast death ray. Sometimes teleport. Sometimes they cast magic reflection on themselves, can be good or bad depending on what pet is fighting. Seems like they cast flamestrike more often than regular magery.

Magery Mastery changes the pet's spellcasting AI drastically, and gives them access to a wider variety of spells. They'll usually cycle between FS and E-Bolt until they run low on Mana, then they'll start casting lower level spells while mixing in a Mana Vampire to attempt to regain Mana. If the opponent has high Fire Resist, they'll use Mind Blast instead of FS (which is good damage with a high INT pet, like a Serpentine Dragon). They'll occasionally use Death Ray as well, but with the same restrictions as players. They can't move while channeling Death Ray, and if they take any damage during it, it interrupts the channel. If a pet repeatedly attempts Death Ray and keeps getting interrupted, it can suck down mana fast (initiating Death Ray is very mana intensive). They'll also Teleport a lot more frequently to the target, and they can cast Magic Reflection, which reduces their Physical Resist while increasing their Elemental Resists until their either re-toggle it, or are stabled.

Sadly, even with Magery Mastery, a pet's magic damage just can't compete with melee focused pets. 700 STR Chiv+AI pets put out far more consistent damage than even a Magery Mastery Serpentine Dragon (up to 1,040 INT) with 120 Magery/120 Eval/120 Med/120 Focus.

This is good info : Sounds like the Reflection spell can be a real negative. Are they going to remove it from the MM pet's spells? Someone said they are looking into it.

I just wish there was an option in settings for pets to show words of power so we can more easily tell what they're casting. Wild stygian drakes do it, why not tamed pets?

Ths is a great idea! I will post it for you for our 2019 wish list.

Imagine an EM event with 100 tamables all casting words of power. If you watch your pets, for the most part you can see what spells they are casting.

Right. Also this will add to the lag even on the non-EM encounters. This is why the recommendation would only be good if there is a toggle on-off of pet words of power or all words of power as I mentioned in the wish list. Otherwise I agree it will be a nuisance for the most part. Toggle on for diagnostic purposes, toggle off for regular play.

If the setting was just to see words of power for your pet only and have an option to turn it off, lag shouldn't be a problem.
