Think higher fame than that. Keep in mind that you can use moongrass on any creature, not just the ones in the legacy dungeons. I'd say outright what they are, but I think the devs wanted this one as an easter egg and I don't want to spoil the surprise.

I don't think it is the costume that varies by monster intensity... it is the monster you turn into after using the essence while you are searching for the red-sparklies...

Higher fame gives you a better temp monster appearance, and it also lets you get residue faster. I was wasteing time killing low level spawn and tried succubi and can get the four residue in under 10 minutes. And I'm slow at killing stuff (i'm one of the 3 ToTs an hour people, heh).

There is a some truth to this...it might not be 100% but last night i started killing shadow wyrms and noting which essence i got from them...when i double clicked those after i had 4 i was a drake more than just a few times while before i never was in 30+ times

I haven't been doing this quest nearly as much as I'd like to. I just kill the stuff in the graveyards, turn into a troll and go to Destard mainly.

First costume i got was Skeleton, then 2 Gazers then a shadow wyrm. I LOVE my shadow wyrm!

Haven't even been bothered to try for the robes at all.

And, I've never gotten a yellow crystal yet.

go run the red sparklies.

every time i was something different.

i never varied from that.

so i find it hard to believe that what you poly morph into depends on what you kill.

but then i only did it like 200 times over 10 hours...... (/sarcasm)

on a side note.
i pulled enough blue crystals to get a couple robes, and enough red cyrstals get get like 10 costumes.... but not one.... not even one yellow cyrstal.

now my guild mate, he pulled like 3 out of his first 5 crystals.

some day the RNG loves ya, some days it pimps ya out for 5 dollers.

I have been killing swoop and have been turning into a vallum (may be mini dragon but looks like a vallum!) also the chance for essence seems higher the higher fame you kill!

Yah this. Demons aren't really that great. I've been doing succubi and get dragon or terra matriarch each time.
