As parrots are not actually pets who need feeding, what are wafers good for? Do they have any function? Why are they sold for rather lots of gold in vendors?

Well, they don't actually require feeding (won't go away if you fail to give them food), but they say cute things when you give them a wafer. Supposedly, they are more chatty.
