Last night I was busy trying to set up my macros for the third time (I have agreed that enhanced client is fail, so had to redo all of it on the classic client) and was sitting on my red plugging them all back in and sort of reading General chat as I worked.

After some fun banter back and forth, one of the posters on this particular forum asked me to come to the bank real fast.

This person handed me a gift box containing 10 million gold, and told me to spend it how I wished, and to enjoy it, and consider it a 'welcome back' gift.

Did I need this gold? No. However, her words to me and her kindness meant more to me than I could ever, ever express. I thanked her repeatedly and while I am publicly mentioning the gift, I am not going to mention her name. If said poster feels the need to reveal her identity she may do so.

All that brings me to this:

Chessy has a great community. I have played countless MMO's over the years. I've been involved in countless different forum communities, but there is NO community, quite like Chesapeake. For us to be gone for 5 years, and to return and receive a reception like we have (one cannot imagine how many people we pass while out in random places in our world, both Fel and Tram where we see "Holy Crap! BiC is back!!!") is both impossible to believe and probably one of the most rewarding things ever.

To all of you who have made Jay, Layna and I, along with the rest of the BiC'ers feel welcome and wanted, from the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.

I know I for one feel more at home here than anywhere, and I have come across nothing but respectful people, even when being pwned :)

I was told a long time ago that acting like a jerk (didn't want to get too colorful) would never benefit this game. People are leaving rapidly, i hardly see any young tags out, so why act like that? I'm secure with myself i have no need to talk down to someone else. Helping people out who are new, returning dropped items to people who i kill (not always act like a jerk and ill cut your armor up and then give it back), giving someone in my guild a 120 they need even tho it was my drop. Things like this will benefit and help uo stay alive, perhaps even grow again.

The biggest reason to keep on friendly terms with people is for the sake of pvp. It is a frustrating thing to constantly get killed, or to not quite know whats going on. To intensify that frustration threw stupid talk and poor decisions will never help generate more people in felucca. These short sighted people have no comprehension of this idea.

Anyways the point to my ramble is without a great community this game dies. If you want to play a game that has plenty of uhm "jerk" potential go to diablo2. Its free too.

I will say that some talk is fun but there is a fine line between fun and going overboard.

i suppose thats true i dont recall seeing many young player tags in my few years, but the point is the same.
i will say that in the few years ive played i have noticed a huge decline which must mean that older players have seen an even greater decline in player base. My first few pvp battles lasted hours, with tons of fields, several pushs and lots of people. Control of the spawns would go back and forth with huge field battles. Despise fights would last so long i didn't want to fight anymore. But now if i happen to find a decent sized group of people to fight (oath almost 9 out of 10 times), they want to fight at yew gate or they try to fight in despise once, fail and leave.
By the way I started out on sonoma, which i believe is a very less populated shard then chespeake. I can only imagine the fights on chessy back in the "prime" of uo. Too bad i slept on this game for so long.

On the bright side, I brought 8 people with me in the last two weeks alone. :)

I dunno, I remember Lord Blackthorne's Revenge bringing a *lot* of new players in.. and a good bit during AoS... SE onward was kind of a flop for newbs to me... and the all-digital thing really kills it since there is *no* retail presence for Ultima now... it's down to word of mouth for the most part.

Edit - and I won't lie, I've ran into at least 10 people since I restarted that if I met them, I would want to strangle them, or the very least give them a kick in the face. (Oh, and for the record, unless you are >6', yes, I can kick you in the face.) There are a few people that are either very immature adults, or annoying kids, I'm not sure which.
