Whammy and Double Strike

Just curious here... Has anyone tried using a double axe with high leech, DI, and SSI for whammy purposes? I'm assuming double strike's second hit activates leeches as well, and if so, it seems to me that double axes would easily be the best weapon choice for a whammy. For one, they have double strike, which would cost 21-22 mana at 40% LMC; secondly, they also have whirlwind strike for use when surrounded. So as long as you have high SSI, DI, LCM, and leeches, combined with curse weapon, I imagine you could really dish out the damage.
