Not a bad Cu to start with. Now you can start the bonding process and stable it, while you look for a better one. Consider that a benchmark, to weed them out.

Some tips that should help (if you are not already doing these):
1. Ignore the Dex/Stamina value. All Cus will train back to 125 Dex, so the pre-tame/post-tame value does not make a difference once trained.
2. Ignore the All Skills. All Cus will train back to 100.0 in all skills so the pre-tame/post-tame value does not make a difference once trained.
3. Focus on Hit Points and Resists. The STR range is so small it probably does not make much difference. Cus don't cast spells, so the Int/Mana value should not matter either.
4. Keep dreaming about getting a Blaze Cu.

I started with a 3.1 normal colored cu and have had him for a month or two. just released him tonight cause the 3.9 charcoal colored cu i tamed last week finally bonded, YAY!

sometimes i really wonder about that pet power calculator, that 3.1 i had kicked ass. so i will see the difference after i train this one.

does anyone know what the for sale market on sonoma is like? i've obtained some interesting Cu colors with decent stats.. ice blue, etc, and want to sell. what are the prices for a good pet power calc rating, a color, etc... if nobody knows specifically about sonoma, perhaps another shard would provide insight...

thanks

Congrats on your new pup, he looks like a nice one indeed, and don't let anyone tell you any different!!! He'll be a real butt kicker when trained!!!

When we use the pet calculator on Cu's we generally input the information as if the Cu were completely trained up, so you can see how powerful he is gonna be when you're done training him. I'll try to see if I can do a paste to show you and example...

Now I must admit I have never seen the "pet power rating" rating drop after inputting the completely trained stats, not sure what is up with that!! The "with skills included" has ALWAYS come up at least equal to or greater than the first rating number when inputting trained stats. I even double checked a couple of my pets, but for some reason it is dropping on your particular pet. Must be a quirk in the calculator.

Tried a quick experiment if you input your same info but raise his hit point up to 295 instead of 294 he comes out to a 4.3 under the "with skills" catagory. So it must be just a number combination quirk in the calculator.

I would certainly consider your pup at least a 4.2!!!

Personally, I keep anything 3.5 or higher when it comes to cu's. :)

3.8 is a solid pet. Over 4 is awesome!

Near-5 is near-impossible :)

Grats on your pups!!

It's SO unfair ! :rant2: I just found a Cu who is :

Hit Points: 593 : 99%
Str/Dex/Int: 612 : 100% / 81 / 268 : 92%
Resists: 65 : 100% / 36 : 80% / 84 : 99% / 34 : 68% / 82 : 96%

If it wasn't for Fire and specially poison he would be close to perfect :sad2:

I was considering keeping it as anyway his weakest points are not the strongest for any CU, but i have better balanced ones and not enough room in my stables ...

but it's such a shame !
I never saw so many 100% or close on the same pet before

Jeza, they are out there, we find cu's that are at least a 4.1 on the calculator frequently to include colors. Just have to cull a few, my latest cu is:
600 hp, 610 str, 276 int, resists are 62,40,81,50,82 (Now if only he were a rare color...). He is a total of 315 out of 330 resist possible. And he only hits a 4.3 on the calculator. Have another cu that hits 323 out of possible 330 resist, but his hp is lower, so only hit a 4.1 on the calc. If you are looking for a high rated cu according to the calculator you want a cu that hits at the very least 300 total resist. When we're looking for a "tough guy" we glance at the hp and str, usually looking for at least 565 hp and 610 str if we see that, then we will peek at the resistsif they look promising, we grab the calculator, if he is not hitting at least 300 right off the bat, we just weed him out. That is our starting point at finding a really good pup. Most of our personal cu's have at least 305 resist, some of the rares being the only exception, as you just don't get as many of those to weed thru. In time we will eventually have them. We just simply trade out as we get stronger ones. But again, like other peeps have mentioned, a 3.5 cu is a nice pup, it is simply possible to get even better! For us the key is high resist, and having him fully trained. The difference between a "young pup" and a trained pup, is a remarkable difference.

85 is the maximum dexterity of a freshly-tamed cu, but a trained cu can have a maximum of 125 dexterity. Unlike strength and intelligence, dexterity can actually be trained up in every cu (indeed, in most tamables) to a maximum of 125. Once he trains this cu, it will register as 125/125.

Keep in mind, jeza, that you can also tailor your pups for certain types of monsters. If you're fighting a beast that does 100% physical damage, for example, your pup has 100% of the possible physical resist - so that's a good matchup. In your case, you'd want to use that pup for monsters doing phys, cold, or energy damage (since it has high resist against those), and avoid monsters that do fire or poison damage.

You can find out what kind of damage the monsters do by lore-ing them or looking them up on the hunter's guide.

I have a couple of pups set aside for various purposes - mainly pups that have great numbers but just one or two weaknesses.

Yes that's a good idea, but I would need a lot more of stable slots. I only have 1 left as it is.

I guess I could get rid of my WW, fire steeds, unicorn and Hiryu as I almost never use them. They're not even trained.
But I like having variety :blushing:

Anyway I spent some days taming Cu's and now I have two good ones

598 HP 602 STR 64 41 82 48 75 (4 pet calculator)
579 HP 610 STR 63 41 80 46 84 (4.1 pet calculator)

the best one hasn't bonded yet and I'm having a lot of fun training the other :D

I'm inclined to not give the pet calc much weight when making my pet decisions because it doesn't evaluate things the way I might.

It is impossible to remember the maximum stat/resist for every pet in your arsenal. The easiest was to evaluate how your pet's stats/resists compare to their maximum possible value is the Pet Power Calculator.
