Weird Token Bug?

I had been keeping my shard shield tokens in a box under the shields because they don't display how many charges they have left, and highlighting the box was an easy way to see how many transfers I had available.
Today I opened my box for atlantic which is located on the Catskills shard and found that the three tokens in that box were all for the Catskills shard. I checked my other boxes, GreatLakes and Catskills, and they were fine.
Has anyone heard of this happening? I had been travelling back and forth thinking I had so many trips left and now I don't.
When mentioned to friends someone said they'd heard of this happening and had read a post here? (I can't find it on the first few pages)

Anyone else have any input on this?

Yep. something like this but slightly different. Not too far back in past posts someone said they had regular (not shield) transfer tokens switch to a different type token. He wasn't a happy person.
