We now have two Thiefs Forums to offer you

I just wanted to remind everyone that Stratics now has two Thief Forums. One is called the UO PvP Thief and the other is UO Thief. The UO PvP Thief deals with "discussion of player versus player thieving. If you steal from another player, this is the place to talk about it." and UO Thief deals with, "discussion of the stealing skill as it pertains to NON player versus player thieving". The reason for two forums was because some people had trouble defining what a thief was, as you can see by this definition:

thief: a person who steals, esp. secretly or without open force; one guilty of theft or larceny. (larceny is defined as the following: the wrongful taking and carrying away of the personal goods of another from his or her possession with intent to convert them to the taker's own use.)

As you can see that is too broad of a term and most PvP thief's would fall under the following two terms.

mugger: a person who mugs, esp. one who assaults a person in order to rob him or her.

pickpocket: a thief who steals from the pockets or purses of others in public places

Where as many of the PvM thief's who collect rares on dungeons could be considered the following:

burglar: a thief who enters a building with intent to steal. (burglary is the act of entering a building or other premises with the intent to commit theft.)

The main problem is that now players can now mug or pickpocket off of monsters and many players had questions about it. They went to the old Thief's Forum and were referred to the "UO Rares Collector" and the "UO Fishing and Treasure Hunting" forums to try and find answers. Both of these forums do not cover these new questions so it was decided to make a new one to help these players. So if you steal items from dungeons or off of monsters use the new forum, if you steal from other players use the PvP one. Its that simple.

There is a lot off grrr'ing over the second forum, at least on the uhall, but wasn't there always a seperation between the treasure hunting thieves and the pvp/people hunting thieves?

The growling is because one class of thieves feels they are superior to the 'newer' class of thieves. It's all a bunch of nonsense if you ask me. There's no need for a 2nd forum. The old trolls that inhabit the old forum need to come down off their self created pedestals and learn to get along with their non-pvp brethren.

Oh my. Well, it is always nice to alert players of "where to go" to find answers. I once tried to make a thief...I wanted to be able to steal those neat swords found in the bottom of the fan dancer dojo. Not that I nessiciarly want the swords themselves, I just wanted to be able to take them. My problem was, I couldn't seem to get a single gain in stealing. So, I just soulstone'd the 50.0 skill points.

Maybe I should visit that forum sometime to see what I need to do. Thanks for the heads up Vallend.
