Warning: pet stabling bug

Another rehash of an old ML bug, for some reason pets set to follow you are not being stabled on occasion when you log out, which of course means they lose loyalty and eventually unbond. This happened to me on my miner last night with his bonded vollem and fire beetle, server down was in 15 so i went home, set my pets to follow me as always, and logged off safely in my secure room. (well before the automatic disconnect, and i wasn't combat flagged...this was a miner) When I logged back in today my pets were gray and wandering around the room wild, thankfully since it requires no taming to re-tame pets you previously had I was able to get them back after a few tries (I currently have no active account with taming) so I fed them and shoved them in my stables, but it shows a definite bug in the auto-stabling. Sucks though now as i have to wait another week to use them again.

OT but do you mine in dangerous areas? How does the Vollem do?

I still have five of them still in token form that I've never used. I was thinking maybe I'd give one to my miner.

Did you log off After it says "The servers are going down shortly."?

If so, this isn't a bug, Its because once that message is shown, the server stops saving, anything you do during the 30-60 seconds after that message will be reverted, so if your not Riding your beetle. it won't log out or be stabled as usual.

always a good idea, (if you play untill server down) to get back on at server up to make sure you didn't loose anything, particularly pets.

I would suggest instead of using vollems, bond a lowland boura (or two) to your miner. they require no taming (to bond) as well.

Vollems aren't bad, but as a miner, (assuming you use gargoyle pickaxes) some of the eles are immune to pet damage anyway.

i logged approx 20 minutes before server down, the first message hadn't shown yet. Wasn't in combat timer either as it had been a while since something targeted me. (and nothing got in my house, i do get reapers and dark wisps spawning inside all the time though)

As for how the vollum does in combat, he actually does great, even better now that he's slightly trained. since they're only 2 slot also he compliments the fire beetle well. They cast spells too so they'll hit things pretty hard even ranged, and heal themselves when their hp gets low, which is great for a character without a ton of mana. I don't use gargoyle picks as i have no way to kill the ele's, so he's entirely for roaming monsters and players.

I'm on siege so we have roaming dark wisps everywhere so you have to be ready to fight them, and so far he's taken out every dark wisp, gargoyle, ogre, harpy, etc without even taking damage. I also have a small amount of myst and magery to complement my imbue skill, not enough for "real" combat (no room, this is a miner/crafter/fisher/lumberjack and i only have a few soulstones that are full of crafting skills, i have about 160 points i can fit for "combat" so it's split 80/80 between magery and myst.) really but enough to cast sleep and para + gtfo. The vollum has already proven himself fairly well in pvp situations and out of curiosity i took him into wrong and killed some stuff with him (he did a very good job, the early stuff he was able to take 3-4 at a time with minor healing, takes him a while to kill though due to the ridiculous amount of hp they gave those guys.)

Even on Siege, I view auto-stabling as something to be avoided at all costs since it is buggy as hell.

Unless, of course, it's an emergency, when logging just ensure you are mounted on your ridable pet and make the time to stable any other pet(s).

You'll never regret stabling a pet, but the potential to regret not stabling a pet is infinite.

yeah, i normally do, i actually even have a hitching post in my house to do so....i just decided this time to save the charges on them as i planned on mining again after i woke up :/ I do log with pets following me from time to time. I'm glad nothing or nobody came into my house and killed them before i logged back in, so it's basicly salvaged now, just a warning that there's still a bug. (i thought this one at least was fixed)

the posts dont use charges to stable? just to retrieve?

also a new bug that has formed is the all pets come out of stables when you log in bug.
the other day i logged in and every pet i owned was at my feet.. i had to put them back in the stables before i could command any.

Depends on the post you have. The one from the cash shop only charges you for stableing. The crafted one takes a charge each time you stable and each time you claim a pet.

This has happened to me twice in the last month, I figured it was my fault somehow.

I was using 2 trained Vollems in Shame killing bloods. If the bloods weren`t discoed it was a very hard fight but once discoed they killed a blood faster than a RC does.

Also used them to fight along side of others pets. Let a guildies dragon start tanking a burning mage for instance and than sic the vollems onto it and they did rather well. Was much easier than recasting RC every minute and you seriously noticed the slow down in kill time when the vollems were not attacking with the dragon.

Just thought I`d throw my vollem experience out there. I think in alot of situations, they are under rated but like someone else said, for some miners (depending on the skills) maybe a bora would be a better option.

Vollems equal nightmares. They are very special in some ways. A character with crafting for example can heal them with tinkering. (They count as golems. But that also unfortunately includes the messy way of healing them with tinkering.)

Two notes:

1. According to dev statements, the backup cycle for shards runs about 45 minutes. As such, I'd never log out to autostable in the last hour before the shard goes down, except if I was in my house, and was going to log back in as soon as it came back up. Some of these issues may be that you were active in an area that hadn't backed up yet, then left, logging out in an area where the backup process had already run (so when both areas were backed up, you weren't in either).

2. If your pets autostabled from you logging out to save them from dying (after you died yourself), and you don't claim them by logging out and back in (instead, using a pet ball, stable or hitching post), they will sometimes not autostable when you log out again later.
Something about you retrieving them from an autostable event in a manner other than logging back in, screws up the entire system, until you log back in and out.
Heck, one time I had a couple pack animals that I logged out to save after I died, then got them back using pet balls after I rezzed, then restabled them when I was done - and when I logged out, they apparently popped out of the stable at the location (my house) where I'd logged, and I had to re-tame them that evening when I came back. If a mount, this can happen to where you effectively dismount when you log, leaving the pet behind. I've logged in and back out in such a situation, and found myself standing, with the mount beside me, not under me.

And the SA launch ones are flesh and blood, and can be healed with magic and vet skill. My T-hunter uses 2 of them for level 3-4 maps (though they tend to die easy if an Ogre Lord goes for one of them instead of me).

My miner uses a mage bow...with some specials on it that takes down the eles quickly. *Thank you Lord Dog for the bow*

1. I wasn't 3 screens from my house, on the same subserver

2. I never relog to pull pets in combat, and don't use pet balls. I didn't die anyways and hadn't been in combat for nearly a hour, I'd cleared the area fairly well. the pets were instructed to follow me well before I logged out (obviously as they followed me into the house also)

There were 2 nights where I at least thought I didn't see the warning message about the server being about to go down. I just saw the one where it was saying "Cya!!!!". I went to my house and logged out, but...

On both occasions, I didn't trust the server to keep my pets safe, and I logged in to check the status of my pets after the reload. I found that the server had indeed reloaded for its nightly maintenance AND it warped my pet(s) and I back to where we were before, and critically, did not auto-stable anything. I logged in to find my pet(s) wandering around and losing loyalty very fast.

Why can't they make this thing work better???? :(
