Warlock tips

I recently started playing my 43 warlock again after a very long absense.

I realized I stopped playing her because I just didn't know which spells to use. And that hasn't gotten any better this time around. I thought maybe someone here could help me figure it out!

She is demonology, and I tend to use my VW when I solo. I hit the mob with a corruption, curse of agony and immolate (not necessarily in that order) after I send my VW to take aggro. Then I'm just not sure which spell to use. If I use searing pain, I tend to draw aggro away from my VW, but if I use Shadow bolt, it tends to use too much mana, and takes way to long to cast.

After killing the mob, I find I am at least half out of mana or a little over half so I life tap a little to get back up and hit the next mob with drain life to get my life back.

So, what's the best way to kill a mob so that you aren't constantly out of mana?

My Gnome Warlock is 44th level. After a short break of him, I am once again playing him too.

Your attack style is exactly like mine, but I make sure to match the curse with the foe. If he is a Spell Caster, than I toss the spell casting slowness curse on him. Each foe gets a unique curse. Then the dot's and for me, I wand them alot. I let my VW do all the hitting and just make sure my dot's are active. When they wear off, I hit them again with them.

One thing I have noticed, at 44th level, with Mana Drain, I am only getting 99 points of mana drained back to me each tick. That is not enough, so when I do not use my wand, I find myself drinking after each battle too.

I do not use fear, but some say that is how to keep them at bay while you dot them to death.

So we have a similar style, perhaps someone else has a different technique.

Okay I love my lock, while I tend to run out of mana from time to time, rarely do i drain myself completely like I do with my Druid.

Part of this has to do with having Intel boosting items. Those help immensely wtih increasing your mana. Intel and Stamina should be the two mods a Lock looks for on items. Spirit should be last. PERIOD.

Now how to kill stuff and not run out of mana. Hubby would disagree with me on this one, but its worked extremely well for me:

Invest in a GOOD wand

The wand will do damage normally quicker than it takes for you to cast Shadow Bolt.

Here's my normal array of attacks.

Sick VW on Mob. Dot Mob in this order (because I have casting reductions with how I'm speced) Immolate, Corruption, Curse (use appropriate curses too....agony for non casters, etc). If I need a soulstone then I normally will Soul drain the creature. Otherwise I use wand then if I manage to draw aggro I will use drain life.

Another very useful as I'm afflicition speced, is shadowburn. If the creature dies within 5 seconds of casting, you get your shard back. Normally I time it right and it works. Shadowburn does a lot of damage. If you are good on life and aren't worried about threat, Shadowburn, curse of agony.

Life tap is also your friend. One of the other things I do if I have a bag full of shards is to cast the first three spells listed up there, life tap twice, life drain till I get most of my life back. By then the critter is normally dead or damn close.

If anyone ever wants to come and watch me play my lock, let me know. I'm on Whisperwind.

Well, for starters, make sure the VW gets the first hit and casts his taunt before you do anything. Then fire off your casting order of spells. You may want to hold off a little bit before casting immolate as the direct damage component does draw some aggro. Searing pain is not that hot at lower levels in PVE. You may want to consider using drain life a lot. Wand are decent, but don't grow to depend on them.

As for gear.. the general rule of thumb for 'locks in the order of importance is +damage, Stamina, and Intelligence. A 'locks ability to life tap is incredible. Couple that with drain life, siphon life (if talented) and you have a potent ability to have minimum downtime 90% of the time. Unless you're destruction spec'd
. In the end it is a balance of gear, as you don't want to gimp yourself in anyone area.
