To make it relevant to UO, it's kind of like if you've ever made a macro on your PvP mage to say something like, "This is going to hurt!" Then you cast e-bolt one day and you're like, "Hm, did I really need to make that macro say something?" Ah, the first time I wrote a marquee in HTML. *Memories.*

Change speed. Reload. Change speed. Reload.

I like them. Mine never stopped because they weren't very cool, just basic ones .

The scrolling notices can be dismissed by anyone. There's a close button for them. They're not ads--they're forum notices for our users. At least, I think that's what he's talking about.

Just because a concept is old, doesn't mean it can't still be effective (I have a vague hope that applies to people too, I'm getting a bit long in the tooth myself )
Sometimes the simple way is better than more elaborate.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was eye-catching enough to emphasise the messages contained within it, yet not overly intrusive to the point where it made the page appear too 'busy'.
