Vigilant Cyclops [Guardian]

First times I've seen these, two at a time guard a red hued wooden chest which says 'Cyclops Treasure Guardian Locked' and can't be picked up! Once the Vigilant Cyclops have been defeated the chest turns to a normal wooden looking chest, it still can't be picked up or opened with magic, double clicking the chest makes it disappear, I have no idea if lock-picking works on them!

Is this something new or just the remains of some type of event/quest?

The EMs on Europa have been using those all over the place, Perhaps your EMs were testing it? Certainly think its part of an EM event anyway.

these were from the stygian abyss housing contest. they were part of the gargoyle's chain. if you were on the quest after defeating the cyclops when you doubleclick the chest, you got an item called a "Flaming Bud", that was used to make your lantern. That's what they were initially used for anyway.

Looks like Vigilant Cyclops [Guardian] are here to stay, because they are still there.
Isn't that housing thing/quest long gone?
