Vendor Paperdolls wearing items for sale?

During VS yesterday I recalled using map option then used the open container option which showed empty container. I noticed the Vendor Paperdoll was wearing the items I wanted and clicking on the armor showed price and allowed me to buy. I tried to dress my own vendors - both regular and commission - in wearable items for sale but could not do so. Can someone please tell me how to go about dressing vendors in sellable items? Thank you!
