Vendor cost

In years past I remember travelling all over Sosaria shopping for items on vendors throughout the land. Anyone could open a vendor on his/her doorstep and sell just about anything. If you sold good stuff, or needed stuff, you could build up a pretty good business as once found, people would return over and over to your successful business.

Nowdays that is not possible. If my house is located in a remote place, there is 0 chance that anyone will happen to come by shopping. The reason for this is that if I have lets say several $1M items to sell, vendor fees will quickly exceed the selling price. This forces all merchants to sell only in high volume places like luna. It also forces the out of the way vendor to stop trying to sell anything at all. Then you have a landscape full of houses, little traffic, and no vendor service whatsoever.

It's time to do away with vendor fees.

What a shame.

Open gates to your vendor like it was done back when WBB was the favorite bank sitters location...la

Opening gates is a valid option, but you have to admit it limits your opportunity to those bank sitters online at the time. Another option is to mark runes and drop them all over the place. I wonder how many bank sitters these days represent the customer base you are seeking, and also wonder why people are not more sensitive to the clutter all those runes cause everywhere you go nowadays?

Agreed with OP.

I understand the logic of vendor fees.... "moderating" prices you charge on items, so you don't simply slap a 10 million gold price tag on everything and let it sit and collect cobwebs on a vendor for 2 years.

However, it penalizes the wrong kind of vendorhouse. I've argued that over in Players Corner and Home & Castle. It, clearly, doesn't sufficiently penalize the super rich people running big Luna choirhouse vendor shops because I see some of the same overprices rares sitting on them for ages. However it does very quickly eat up the profit margin on a big pond small fish vendor like myself where my profit margin per item might be in the 10s of gold (for scrolls) to the couple thousand of gold (for runebooks and bulk regs adn potion kegs).... there are no items I'm selling with a several hundred k or million gold profit margin to more than cover vendor fees as other things sit unsold for a long time. And selling items in the millions shouldn't have to be a virtual requirement to run a vendorhouse in the black, IMHO.

Perhaps they could make the present vendor fee structure apply only to artifacts and rares.... and return to a flat rate for vendors stocking only non-artifact items. This would bring back all kinds of shops which presently are totally unprofitable.
