Vanquishing silver Kryss

In the day, obtaining a silver vanquishing sword or kryss was a glorious event. Not only did you get the benefit of not fearing liches anymore, but other people would see you carrying it and be very jealous.

I wonder what joy and pride I can look forward to with an exceptional, pof'd, imbued, inhanced, refined item? Will others have to calculate it's value and impressiveness by taking the sum total of all the other armor mods I carry?

I realize that to newer players, and possibly devs, the significance of the experience with the vanquishing items is lost. Trust me, it's not like the old days anymore.

I had a stockpile of silver vanq weapons that I'd stolen during the invasion of Trinsic event so many moons ago. It was a sad day when I'd logged in after a break to find they were basically worthless after AoS.

Now the equivalent to that would probably be like a Major, or Greater artifact (shame-loot) with no negatives. (I would say legendary artifact, but the rarity of those is/was far harder to come by than a silver-vanq weapons were.)


You know, itemization isn't bad, items cause minimal imbalances in UO. but one thing I would absolutely love to see in UO would be the ability to "Link" items in chat.
Similar to how you're able to in most other MMOs.

over gen-chat you would see the name of the item, if you click the item, it would pop-up with a gump as if you're highlighting the item from your pack.

It would make it much faster/easier than typing out each mod (some items have too many mods to type them all in one comment in UO), but it would also give ideas to people as far as, what properties & items people are mostly interested in.

Silver Vanq ... god that takes me back... and I wish we could return to it. Simplicity... Disarm the wild power trips some of the players are on. More at times is too much.

I agree with you, but how in the world would you propose going back to that?

perfect lines, more horse power then you could ever want with 330.
i drool ever time i see one.

fast forward to today.
you can get a Hennessey Venom GT that comes stock from the factory with over 1200 HP!
they had to dig out spread sheets to make that car.
i have to dig out spread sheets to even understand how that car does what it does.

given the option which one would you choose?

330HP vs 1200HP is the same as comparing a Silver Vanq kryss to a imbued, refodged, refined kryss.

had that sucker item blessed and use to hang out at the yew gate and pawn people.

I would take the 71 Tang in a heart beat, this from a 69 charger owner with a 383 4 speed 3/4 cam stock from the factory.

ok to go back Draconi said the original book that was UO's core was in his words shredded by EA.... I dont think it was a mistake by the shippers. I do wish I could go back and have him put it in his car too... as he regretted not doing.
With that core we could have had that Classic shard.. we could go back to the armor and wepon system of old...
We dont need more tech magic... we need balance... that system made balance..
When you found that Silver Vanq or a Vanq period you coveted it like gold... It was the top of the line in weapons as was the Invun armor. It didnt take a degree in astro physics to do the math. You just had to hunt and keep your eyes pealed for them. The bless's that we got that year from the very first turn in were soo hard to get... My son wondered last time he went through Yanaki's bank how the hadies he got a blessed gm weapon... this just answered that.... omg...

It wouldnt be so hard to go back to it... but could you talk the others who are more concerned with being the top dog to give up their uber power wep to go back to the old ways ...

My state has antique licenses for vehicles 25 years or older. I never thought to call it a classic.

I agree with you, but how in the world would you propose going back to that?

Delete all AOS code, wipe all weapons and armor, implement new, simpler combat and crafting mechanic, and start from scratch with the items.

I'd give up all my gear for it in a heartbeat.

Well, I am starting to realize that the memories are ours alone, you cannot pass them on. I do, however, hope they survive a while longer...

I am slowly coming to this conclusion after many discussions with the grandkids. I also watched American Idol last week and the finalists were performing rock and roll tunes. It was pretty sad that they did not have a clue as to what rock and roll was, had never heard of the classic songs until that week, and that they couldn't even imitate the soundtracks they learned from because they did not comprehend the feelings and drama contained there in. I guess the sadness I feel is that they won't have the feelings or memories themselves. My only hope is that their experiences in today's world will be fond memories to them one day.

The system doesn't necessarily have to be made simpler, just made more intuitive and be better presented. It can retain complexity for people who like building their armour sets and doing all that min-maxing, but it could be made less impenetrable to those who just want something effective to wear when hunting things.

The weapon/armour system as it stands is presented as a complex wall of numbers that furthermore, doesn't feel very immersive. Magic weapons don't feel magic and non-magic weapons don't feel mundane. Plate doesn't feel like a heavy protective armour, and leather doesn't feel like the lightest armour choice you can make.

It needs a proper overhaul. It needs completely rebuilding from the ground up.
