United Workers of Siege Perilous Face the Horror of the Harrower Itself!
I was notified that [UWSP] was marshaling forces this day, and always curious, I met my new brethren to see what awaited us. Tanager and Magic, their blue and black guild garments in curious disarray, greeted me at the door. Seeing the unspoken question in my eyes, Magic laughed it off with a "A little forza before battle you understand..." and a devilish grin. I followed them inside to find a large force gathered.
"Our ranks have swelled and need our support," he noted, "and we have many inexperienced warriors still training. Today we hope to improve their position, but it will be a dangerous task."
He had my full attention now, and I listened with interest, "Today we face the Horror itself, the Harrower!" A murmur of discontent moved through the crowd, and giving voice to their concerns, Magic continued, "Yes, yes, there are reports that murderous bands rove even as we speak. But I have arranged for a group of mercenaries to accompany us. We shall face the Harrower as they protect our flank. We will split the treasure once finished."
Magic left and returned in mere moments, "The creature has been spotted in Dungeon Deceit. Our escort waits for us there." We quickly tightened our belts and followed as he departed again.
Spilling out of the gate we were met by a murderously savage looking gold-bearded rogue who said his name was Astynax. The words were almost visibly red as he spoke, and without delay he turned and led us into the gloom.
We found the Horror in a side passage and set our beasts upon it. Outside in the main hall the mercenaries set a deadly trap for any foolish enough to interrupt this hunt.
A long battle ensued, the Harrower backed into a corner as a crushing wave of assault closed in, but just at the moment of victory it unleashed an even more maddening form, The True Harrower!
As we fought for our very lives in the crypt, outside a lone challenger approached. Without warning Astynax, Bo, and Ceronis Liadon struck the intruder down:
As the body collapsed we learned it was an expired NEW member. Moderately regretful, the mercenaries resurrected the erstwhile adventurer and delivered him to our care.
Inside, the battle reached a fevered pitch. The True Harrower filled our mind with psychic taunts:
Alarm spread through our force when someone reported that one of the mercenaries was near death, mortally wounded. Had a group of challengers arrived? We renewed our attack in case our time was short:
Success! The beast met a grisly end and we raced behind our guard. As we neared the light of day, I clutched greedily at the treasure pulled from the vile Evil.
Safe in Zento, I investigate the strange tunic. What manner of sorcery was this?
Trusting my own power, I slipped the arcane tunic on:
Searing fire filled my mind! A pain no man can endure roiled down my body. I awoke some time later, a dull remnant of aching bones still felt, only to find my flesh gone!
Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory, my adventure ended in horror. The Harrower's Curse has claimed me!
