[Lumberjacking] Uses for colored woods/ingots ?

Hi All,

As one who really enjoys lumbering/mining I would really like your thoughts on the colored woods/ingots.

Lately I am getting the feeling they are not used much anymore as was once in the past.
With the imbuing and "fixing" self made relics I do not see much demand for the colored woods/ingots anymore.

Besides the odd house addon, filling certain bods and the occaisional enhancing, the only big use I see left is just turning in the resources at the libraries.

Although I do like what imbuing brought to the game ... I think it is sad it made my miner-lumberjack less useful.
(Not that I stopped doing this, I love my lumberjacking sessions)

Am I overseeing other possibilities, and what are your thoughts on this?

Regards,
Umfufu

Hey Umfufu,

I think many people use them when crafting armor and weapons. The additional mods that each type of material provides can be very useful.
For example, special wood types add mods to armor that are not available via imbuing, such as hci and di. When you enhance a weapon with a certain material, you can adjust the damage types as you like. Also, with the latest changes, dragon barding made from different types of metal has different resists.
These are just a few things off the top of my head but if you have a quick look around this forum you'll find many examples of why people use coloured ingots/wood instead of plain ones. You can also take a look at the tables on stratics with the added bonuses that each material gives.

You are correct they are not used as often as they once where. They are used 1/4th of they previouse uses more or less. Pandaros pointed out how they are still used but thats only if you asked if they are never in use. But as you asked if they droped in usefulness from the past then yes very much so. They are only used to fulfill nich specific qualities unlike before they were mandatory. Iron is what is used up the most and any blind man can get that hell don't even need to mine just buy it from npc. So I agree it's sad but what can you do? The dev. are in this easy and everything for everyone no matter how little you play streak.

Thanks for your responses guys ...

I guess sometimes I am still thinking in the past tense or have feelings of nostialgia for the good ol' days.

Lumbering is still useful for me in the sense it is not so much for the colored woods anymore ... I realized this the other day when I felt about the same joy in having a crystal shard dropping into my backpack, almost more then finding a bloodwood tree in the past (still like it though, hitting a nice colored wood tree).
And I just like wandering the woods and chopping tree, it soothes? me.

Only looking at all those colored stacks in my banks, makes me want to do something with them ... I even went ahead and made some runed switches from frost wood :D
And am making decco items from valorite ingots.

I do hope they bring back some "balance" to the colored woods/ingots usefulnes wise someday.

I adapted for now, but as I said I have memories of other times.

If you have so many coloured boards and ingots in the bank why not sell them?:)

Anyway, for me it is much easier to use the coloured ingots and boards I gather than the thousands of iron ingots and plain boards I gather while looking for the special ones...
