Updating your account management system

Be VERY careful about the new account management system. My bank card was comprmised after updateing my acount managament system and billing. I had called EA for help. For the first time EVER, EVER they asked for my password on one of my master accounts. After that not even a day later my bank called me and told me that there were charges from EA AND others persons steming from there. They bought jewlery, charged 23 EA and Mythic charges and even bought a plane ticket to Berlin Germany. I KID YOU NOT!!! I have been playing this game since Nov 97. Got hacked once in 99 through ICQ. That's when they had the world system tray that you could not cancel unless you opened it.. that's how they hacked my game then. And now this. So I have never been one to cry wolf. Check my past posts if it goes back that far. Check my membership date. I am not a newbie here and I have NEVER cried wolf before. I am very serious about this post. PLEASE TAKE HEED....

PLEASE be very careful about the information that you give to the folks at EA if you have to call them.. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER give your password to ANYONE even if they work for EA, Mythic, Origin. You can not trust anyone.

The new TOS actually says the following at the very end of section 1: "You should not reveal your Account password to others. EA will not ask you to reveal your password, or initiate contact with you asking for answers to your password security questions."

You're not the first person who has posted since August that an EA rep asked for a password.

EA in the past suffered from a "few" employees that shall we say were not on the up and up. Some have been caught red handed and suffered the embarassment of walking the EA campus in nice little cuffs. Others were later found out and law was contacted. I am sorry to say there are many in this day and age who would stoop to 2nd and 3rd hand info selling and unfortunatly you were among the handfull that is now victoms of ths "greed " bug. Contact EA and your local police, Internet fraud is a felony and the U.S. Governtment considers it a large crime.

the very first thing the rep asked when i called in and online chat to get my account running was my username and password..

the lady on the phone even went as far as making me a new ea account and telling me what the password was.. over the phone.

the problems i was having was the webpage kept coming up saying an unknown error occurred when i tried to log in..

one of my accounts still does, but it has 180 days time on it and i wont be worrying until around feb of next year.


PS i only use gtc i will never give UO, EA or any other website a bank card that is directly attached to a bank.. its good advice.. use a one time use refillable card online.

Whenever you are entering credit card or other sensitive info into a website make sure it's over a secure link. You can tell if the website you're using is setup with encryption by looking for https:// at the beginning of the address line.

Most browsers have some sort of visible notice that you're using https. Some show the https:// in a different color than the rest of the address, some actually have a colored block around the name of the page, most browsers show some sort of padlock somewhere in their window do denote a secure page.

There's no such thing as being too cautious.
