They also need to fix their website code to be friendly with browsers other than IE (I use Firefox). The Search box is overwritten by their links.

I didn't even notice that until just now.

When did they reset the herald? Maybe there is another way to find the older news...

Actually UO Herald's back end has been being rebuilt for a long time now (it wasn't announced), and still has a long way to go before being finished... they're working on it, but it still has a way to go.

Lots of links on the site redirect or are broken, pages are incomplete or missing. Every few weeks when I doing link checks for UltimaXbar, I see some progress on UO Herald... but it is slow going.

don't worry for the search box, because if you use it you get only this message:
"You are not authorized to access this page."

Hey folks,

As others have mentioned we did transition the back-end of the site to a new CMS several months ago. There are still some minor, residual issues I'm working on as time allows.

I was not aware of this search bar issue and thank you for bringing it to my attention; Personally I use Chrome and Firefox most of the time and have not noticed this, could you please let me know which version of Firefox you're operating?

I also invite you to send me a PM should you find anything out of place on the front page or primary pages you visit as we appreciate the feedback and with this change have gained much more control over the content and its display.

Thanks all and happy holidays :)

I forgot to add,

We've passed archives of the UO Herald off to Stratics (this includes Herald posts prior to June 2010); they've been in the process of sorting and organizing them and have been given our blessings as the new caretakers of this information.

We did not want this information to be lost, and could not guarantee when we would have the time to restore it and felt this was the best option to ensure its continued availability.

Thanks again!

Best,

good to know, the publish notes are the only guide for certain things, without counting all the old fof :)

As James said we will be getting the archives up asap! After sorting some site issues and a DDoS attack we should be able to switch gears back to normal....

until I just tempted fate with saying something that is *winks*

HEH... Drupal is a new CMS? It's a nice change though, imho, and just in time to upgrade to Version 7 next month.

I am using Firefox 4.0 Beta 7. Other than redirects not working, most other things work well or better in 4.0.

Whoa, what?! The history of patch and publish notes are outsourced to a fansite? Seriously?

No offense, stratics, but doesn't Mythic have enough webspace to host a few textfiles? With the recent history of downtimes and attacks, stratics doesn't seem to be the safest haven for our legacy...

Also, no wonder every dev team has to leran UO anew if you handle documentation like this. "Publish notes? Meh, if it's older than 5 month, see if you can find some fansite to adopt it, otherwise scrap it."

Seriously scandalized,
Merion

Wow.. Going to have to agree with Merion here.. No offense to Stratics, but that’s just beyond the pale of laziness on Mythic's part.

Plenty of the fan sites copy what the Herald has on it, but stripping everything prior to June 2010 is just wrong. God forbid anyone expect some usefulness out of the Herald. Might as well just have it redirect to Stratics so Mythic doesn't have to belabor itself with UO's marginal web presence at all. :twak:

We got a little behind on BNN articles, so we won't have some of the more recent ones until they get put up by Stratics. But here's the link to what we do have:

Folks,

In reality it would have taken upwards of 5+ months for us to import previous information by hand and just as long to be able to schedule an engineer to automate it due to current priorities.

We are fully confident in Stratics and their continued commitment to their site and UO, I understand how this may appear, but assure you this is the best of many options.

Thanks again all for your continued feedback :)

For me, Firefox 3.6.13.

Incidentally, UOHerald has a column on the right side listing the Twitter and Facebook pages, then a bunch of UO expansions etc you can buy from UOGamecodes - but at the bottom of that column, the last item is "EA Game Cards". As far as I knew those didn't apply for UO gametime, is something changing?

You can use the card to purchase anything on store.ea.com, currently. Right now this includes the High Seas booster and Stygian Abyss expansion for Ultima Online.

That is the scary part.
In all honesty could you not outsource UO?

Oh come on! You can't tell me that in a house full of software engineers no one is able to write a converter! Simple html parsing, reformatting and writing it out in whatever output format you need. Just get an intern for that!

Seriously, think about interns! Everyone wants to work in the gaming industry - especially first and second year IT students. Just get 3 of them at any time and have them to all those little things. They're happy, you get stuff done, we don't get the impression that Mythic is unprofessional - everyone's happy.

It's not a problem of skills (they show a great ability), I think is a problem of money :D
EA earns lots but is cheap :D
Seriously, I think EA has gave lot of resources to make a new client and new site for revamp UO... IMHO after the failure of KR they have closed the tap :(
That's means: few men and little projects.
