First of all, I like the term "enhanced dragons." Anyone else feel like adopting it as the semi-official name for the Paragon-esque dragons that are coming?

Now on to the main purpose of the post. If the "Enhanced Dragons" make their way into the production shards, there should be some kind of accompanying official fiction.

An explanation would be good. ("Years of fighting with humans and elves have been breeding a new type of dragon, be on the look out!" "Dragon scholars tell us that every thousand years or so this just happens for no particular reason; annoying and deadly but no cause for alarm unless of course you like to hunt dragons!")

A specific lack of explanation would also be good. ("The Crown has heard reports of _____. We don't know why this is happening. Some dragon scholars say ____, others say ___, others say they have no idea and anyone who pretends to have an idea is lying. It can't be good though, so keep an eye out.") (This approach has the advantage of letting role-players fill in the gaps.)

Whatever approach you decide to take, the era of major changes without fictional explanation (Doom, Virtue Artifacts, Paragons, the list goes ever on and on) really should be over.

It's just bad.

I like Elder Dragons too. And I love the idea of more ingame fiction... I used to read that stuff all the time, before it mysteriously disappeared/became more spotty that is...

Bah, Great Wyrm is better, didn't you ever play any Might & Magics? In Might & Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer, you were able to get Dragons in your party (Which they were completely nasty at high levels) and their' "Promotion Quest" would transform them into a Great Wyrm. They were 4 Dragons/Great Wyrms you could get in your party. Ithilgore, who was easy to get and started as a Lvl 5 Dragon, Brimstone, who was pretty easy to get to and started as a Lvl 15 Dragon, Flamdring was moderately difficult to get and started as Lvl 30 Dragon, and Duroth the Eternal was a pain in the ass to get, he started as a Lvl 50 Great Wyrm, talk about nasty.

They could be some kind of cross bred mutation thing created by the forces that went after magincia.. or they were created by the magics of the ophidian?

Something to tie in all we have had so far.. that would be cool

Great, another scandal. We will have DGH (Dragon Growth Hormone) dealers standing outside Destard...

Sitting in light elven chair, he drew back the line and let the cool frostwood pole snap foward, fluttering out the lure across the surface of the water in the darkness of the cavern, before it sunk down into the murky pool. The line fell limp for a few seconds then suddenly began to jitter and quiver. Waiting a few seconds for a lull in the turbulence, he then carefully reeled in the line, finding an entire school of aggressive little shiny, pincher-jawed minnows gripping the hook, the lure, the line and each other.

"There are safer places the fish, Lord Maplestone", came a voice from the darkness, a voice high above the cavern floor, deep, ominous, threatening and yet also slightly bemused. "You mortals are becoming far too casual about what paths you travel."

"You remember my name? I am honored, great Sudiva", stated the adventurer, standing and bowing respectfully in the direction of the voice, removing his floppy green hat in a sweeping bow open his earthen-shaded cloak. A flicker of flame appeared high in the far end of the cavern, a small bonfire in the back of the dragon's throat, silhouetting a dense forest of teeth.

"Oh, yes I remember your sacrifice, traveler", stated the dragon. "I remember all who came to me that season past. But I remember everything. I remember a land long before your kind arrived. I remember when the ancient halls of Covetous were first built above my lair. I remember what befell them for their greed. I remember the madness of Mordain and the consequences of his defeat. And I remember when I was not the only dragon to dwell within these lands."

"Um ...", cautiously interrupted Maplestone. "With all due respect, your greatness, there are many dragons across the land. Small dragons, large dragons, I myself have dug up more than one ancient wyrm." He paused, wondering if this was really the best audience for his tales of dragonslaying.

Sudiva laughed, a deep chuckle that resonated throughout the deep cavern with vibrations that covered the deep pool's waters with ripples. "The children of Rikktor? Your kind throw around the word 'dragon' too lightly. Those are not dragons yet ... what you would call ancient is in truth yet only a whelp." Sudiva stepped forward into the edges of the light that surrounded Maplestone. She rose up, her great scales, like an army's worth of shields, her claws like seige weapon sized hooks.

"You have not traveled far enough to meet a true dragon mortal, none save for me", she boosted. "Once, long ago, we walked upon this world and tore holes in mountains to make our homes. But then we were called to the sky and one by one we left, even I, until only Rikktor remained, his lust for power binding him to live and relive a harrowing fate."

"You amuse me mortal", smiled Sudiva. "So I offer you this warning. I have returned to my ancestral home. Others will come after me, some younger, some ... older. They are coming ... and they will not look so kindly or so patiently upon fishermen as I have."

Hours later, Maplestone sat upon a stump in a clearing of the woods near Minoc's Moongate pondering Sudiva's words. He looked up at the passing clouds when suddenly one of them started to move. No longer light and fluffy, it started to stretch and arc against the wind. As it moved, it no longer looked like a cloud, but rather reminded Maplestone of the trail of smoke billowing from a fire. Even as he realized it was moving down towards the distant mountains of Destard, he could see another "cloud" starting to move, and another. Soon the sky would be entirely clear of clouds ... and some dark caves would become far more dangerous.

You could name them Draconians if you payed for the rights to the name, and my guess D&D online would not like to let you have that.

Yes ... but the beauty about fiction is that it requires no coding and no admin access to the servers. Whenever we want fiction, we can add fiction. Surely I'm not the only one who finds it fun to play connect-the-dots with the patch notes and personal experiences?
