Wow, I thought this would have had a ton of posts by now. My take on it is mixed to be honest.

  1. They should have released little trailers throughout the building of it, not after the beta lottery has been closed.
  2. I like the looks and feel of the old style MMORPG. It is kind of refreshing and I miss those games.
  3. It seems less like a sandbox and more like building characters in games like WoW. It did mention at 3:00 in the video that you could unlock the ability to customize skills as you see fit. Maybe it is like that for new players who may be overwhelmed by the number of skills and would prefer prebuilt templates?
  4. I like that they brought back unidentified weapons and armor I just wish it was the old style like power and vanq as opposed to AOS stuff.
  5. I do like that skill points are being earned through quests so you don't have to macro skills. It did not show anything about crafting but I am thinking there will be crafting quests (similar to doing a small bod probably) that will give skill points and most likely mining and lumberjack quests as well. Purely speculative based on the trailer, I have no real knowledge of it.

Overall, I wouldn't mind trying it but not sure it will keep me playing longer than a month or so at a time like I currently am.

Questions that I have that maybe have answers posted somewhere but to be honest, I am too lazy right now to search.

  1. Does housing on New legacy affect housing on the normal shards? If I have a house on Chessy, will I lose it by placing a house on the NL shard?
  2. Is there only 1 NL shard? If so, is there instancing or something from keeping dungeons and starter areas from being overcrowded where waiting/fighting for respawn?

I do like that skill points are being earned through quests so you don't have to macro skills. It did not show anything about crafting but I am thinking there will be crafting quests (similar to doing a small bod probably) that will give skill points and most likely mining and lumberjack quests as well.
The big difference in material gathering is that it is time based and crafting will be no fail but higher skill will yield faster crafting of an item. So many will like this over failing.

To my understanding of what has been said over the years is housing is not going to be effected.
1 NL Shard and I am thinking east coast USA

It's been like 5 years. Everybody but you 5 guys here has long lost interest.
I rarely play official shards anymore and never really had much interest in this to begin with.

This is their answer to WOWs classic vanilla that brought back many players, but no one asked for this.People want a pre pub 16 shard.

For YEARS and YEARS people have been screaming for a Classic Shard and as no two people could agree what a classic shard is this is what UO came up with and because it is not what they think a Classic Shard they are going to piss and moan before they even try it.

And what exactly do you think NL is? As far as we know there are NO PSs and NO not everybody wanted a pre Pub 16 but almost everybody said pre AoS at least but then some wanted add on.

pub 16 brought ps, and made the journey to gm worthless, and pub 17 made crafters worthless with itemization.

Powerscrolls wont be in NL. The items will be the pre 16 stuff. That crap will hold our attention for maybe a few weeks.

I'll be very happy if NL doesn't have powerscrolls, I just wish they had gone all the way back to before AoS, which was the single worst thing they ever did, worse even than ruining the old dungeons and destroying towns.

And consequently insurance. Quite a few changes, which in and among themselves may have been individually popular at the time, only added to the destruction of the overall game mechanics. One of the many reasons that appeasing populism is a long term net loss.

LMAO They went way beyond Age of ****. PSs were way before AoS

I mean more the way the game was back then, it just felt like we had real community, everything felt different after AoS and went downhill a lot.

People may have asked repeatedly and were repeatedly told never you can understand the confusion and UO this is a bad wow copy not a retro up shard

It's true that everyone has a different idea of what would make a classic client but I think almost everyone would agree that Age of Shadows sucked. When I started playing we had real Smiths at the town forges, groups would form to kill blood ellies, elder gazers and dragons, the cities had not been blown up and Dungeon Despise was the go-to place for new players. Happy Days! :D

Thanks for verifying that this was asked for over and over. It is UOs attempt at a seasonal shard. Many games have that.

I feel this way, too, to some extent. Like I think the idea is pretty cool, and they definitely put a lot of work into it. But...given the amount of time they took to release this version, I think it was more of a passion project than anything. Like, I don't think it really bothered what they could have done for UO official. So I am not bothered by the attempt. But I do think NL is missing the mark. I kind of look at it like Swarm, which League of Legends recently released. One dev worked on it for five years. Obiously League is immensely popular compared to UO, but like passion projects don't hurt too much. Like I bet whomever worked on this one just loves UO and wants to see what new systems they can create, and creating new systems from the ground up won't work per se on established shards.

I totally understand, as others have posted, how there is no way to define a Classic Shard. My idea of a Classic Shard is pre Pub 16, back before organized PK guilds formed for champ scrolls and when you got PK'd you'd get a group of 15 people to try and get the PK, when you would stack bone armor on your boat that had no decay because you couldn't afford a house and your bank was already full. Back when magic resist and full plate meant you could take on anything. Back when mage fights could take ten minutes and if you had a stalmate both mages would have to actively meditate.

Everyone I have talked to that doesn't play UO at all anymore--not official or third party--want pre-16 PvP. I don't really think NL will really bring in people unless the PvP is easy to get into. A buddy of mine played and said everything was quests. I think NL might appeal to people who are still playing official more than anything. I will have to check it out if I can, I don't know. But yeah, for me, too, I want to go straight to the action. I don't want a narrative or quests.

I think they got scope creep.

I think what would have been cooler was just a normal shard with new mechanics. A family legacy. Every season would wipe and have a new generation of your family. You'd transfer off if you wanted to... this would give people who played on NL unique items for their home shards. They could even do EM events in one place and have them go at the same time all over the world so players could choose which to go to. Then you could give everyone an item and still have rares because you wouldn't be able to go to every event. Everyone is happy cus they got an item. People on prodo shards would have to play New Legacy if they wanted their EM event items.

Just throw in a new twist every season. This season is Felucca. This season is no Power Scrolls. This season everyone is an orc.

Scope creep or just lack of defined scope to begin with? I'm putting my money on the later.

You need to understand that at Broadsword 90% of the people work on Dark Age of Camelot.

And "Endless Journey" is just the UO pendant of "Endless Conquest" Dark Age of Camelot

Nobody asked for it. No player. No one from the UO team.
