Will the Beta forum be opened to everyone on Friday, or better yet tomorrow? Would really help for those of us just getting in the game to know what has already been reported on.

Stratics doesn't run or host the Beta forum.
Also, I'd just like to point out something that may be obvious to some, and not so obvious to others. The expansion has been in beta for months and months. The open beta is going to last about one week -- and the release date is now in stone. So, what does that tell you? It tells you the open-beta is more of a preview period than anything. They are now in "polish" mode -- any major changes aren't going to happen.

Hopefully, they'll let you start downloading all the SA content a while before it actually is released. Maybe they'll let you order an installation CD for price of shipping alone.Glad to hear 2d/Classic Client will be able to take part in Open Beta..my question is this how big of a download are we looking at for the expansion? Unfortunately, it's not possible to open the forum to all. This is a mythic forum that covers all three of our games (UO, DAOC, and WAR). It is covered by a strict NDA and access is only by invitation.
The players who have participated are welcome to discuss what they have been talking about here once we have given the greenlight to open beta.

These forums will light up with discussion once its open to everyone, it will be a matter of hours before all topics are up from the experience and fresh perspective of new users. The beta forums are filled with posts of content that has been changed, and changed again, a fresh perspective is prolly what most people are looking for.

All of the information that has been given to the players through the course of the beta will be in the playguide section. I've created a special "Stygian Abyss" section in the playguide. This will go live on Friday.
These guys are biting at the bit and can't wait to share information and talk with you guys. Also, they have been given permission to quote from the board with the original poster's permission.
For access to the forums that's really out of my hands. The only way to register is through an invitation given by another department here in the company or manually.... It takes about 2 minutes per person to manually add them to the forum and there's only 1 Chrissay. That's if their name isn't taken.

You don't want to read all the stuff going back 4 months. The relevant stuff will be available, trust me.
Why I'm very happy the open beta begins friday... The days... makes me sad. See I leave Firday to go to college, and college orientation is from Friday to the next sunday... And the orientation is going to be all day those days except Sunday. And since they usually ended it at server up that day... I wont be able to use the open beta for very long before it goes to Retail... Oh well...

According to the press release on the EA website, it states the following about the open beta:
"Current subscribers can also take part in the Stygian Abyss Open Beta from Friday, August 14th – Sunday, August 23rd by logging on the Retribution server on the server selection screen."
I'm a little unsure how we would access the new content without a download. Do we just log on to this "Retribution" server which has all the new content or is there something missing in the current info given? Forgive my ignorance if this seems like a stupid question; but my brain is addled and I am old.

Er.. if it's starting in 2 days, and the release date is September 8th.. and its going to be digital distribution only.. doesn't that mean the open beta will last right up to the release date, meaning it will run almost a month? Kinda wondering where you're getting "about one week" from...

Nothing personal Zodia, but please don't presume to know what I want to read or not, and what I consider relevant. As for trusting you, I have no reason to trust or not trust you, but then that isn't what the topic was about.
What Zodia is trying to get at is that in the past 4 months, some stuff has been so vastly changed that it does not even begin to resemble its own first carnation. You would get conflicting information. It would be confusing to a serious degree. A good chunk of the beta testers that DO have access are still confused.
You need to have some faith that the testers that do have access to those forums will make sure that all RELEVENT information is made available. By relevent, I DO mean the most current information from testers and developers on any given subject, even if it HAS changed 5 times in the last month.
I am not sure what you think you will be missing out on other than 4 months worth of outdated information ....
Perhaps if you let that be known, your desire could be more understood.

Errr what about KR users too bad if this beta can't be used such a shame really.
Oh well will just have to stick to the good ole 2D then coz the enhanced one is just pitiful.

Along with Ailish, Petra, Miss Echo, Crysta, and a number of other folks, I'll be doing what I can to help give you information about expansion content and actually get set up on Retribution when we all get the green light to move ahead into the open beta.
I remember well the feelings I had upon learning open beta testers would not have access to the beta forums when KR went into open beta. So trust me when I say I have a pretty good idea what you may be feeling right now and will be feeling as soon as you are able to log onto Retribution. Please don't let not being able to see what's on the beta forum sour the experience for you. Let that issue slide and just jump in when it's time and enjoy experiencing all the new content and helping to give this expansion a good final pre-release testing and review.

True everything points in that direction. However I am just disgusted that about over a year ago KR was being hard sold to me in order to make sure that the KR client I would be using would be future proof when SA comes along.
Isn't it sad that now an enhanced version of 2D dubbed as the SA client will now be the apple of EA's eye. Well in this flip flop world like changing cellphone models every year in this case instead of improving they change clients we all just have to swallow the pill eh?
I just hope this SA client will be the real deal for I am pretty sure after the dust has cleared we will be reading some unfavorable comments on it too. But then again I could be wrong.

Is it just me? I am missing the retribution shard on the SA client for the Open Beta preview.
Its Aug 15, Friday 11:30am EST.
I just finished my SA patch and wanted to pop on over to Retribution, and there is no such beastie on the SA shard list.
