Stratics launched a Video Contest linked to the content of Publish 71. Please find the FAQ for this contest below:



Publish 71 Content Contest FAQ

How long is this contest and when do I find out I’ve won?
The Content Contest will start today, August 2nd 2011. The deadline for entries is August 15th 2011. The winners will be posted and announced before August 31st 2011.

Okay, but why video?
This contest is for those interested in making video related content of Ultima Online. There will be more contests in the future relating to other areas of interests while gaming.

How will this work and what are the rules?
To submit your video please use this contest forum and upload your video. You must be registered to submit and view these forums. Include your email address to be recorded internally and edited out by administration before the video is made public.

A break down of the contest rules in more detail:
The Contest Forums are set as moderated first. Once a video is submitted, it will be reviewed according to guidelines before making it available for registered users to view. The Contest forums are read only. Please feel free to discuss and applaud their efforts on other UO Stratics forums.
All contributors whose submissions are accepted will receive a Content Contributor title with their username. The top 3 contributors will receive promotional prizes and announced on UO Stratics Front Page.

Rules:

Must be tutorial style video
What this means: Please gear your video towards teaching others what you have learned and enjoy about Publish 71 for Ultima Online. It does not have to have voice overlay if there are text instructions included in the video.

Must be at least 5 minutes in length
What this means: While this is not a hard fast rule if it falls slightly below 5 minutes, we want to make sure the viewers have a good general sense of the content you are submitting.

Must abide by YouTube and Stratics Rules of Conduct
What this means: Appropriate language and themes is essential. Please review the Terms of Service for Youtube.

Must be on Publish 71 focused content
What this means: Anything included in your gameplay that has been touched on in publish 71. You can review the publish 71 details at uo.com. This leaves your interests wide open to explore what you enjoy. For example: PvP changes, Charybdis, fishing additions or Magincia Bazaar.


I’ve never done a video in game before but it sounds interesting! Any suggestions on how to get started?
We are a division of TGN (The Game Net) that focuses on videos for all gaming titles. They have some great tutorials and ideas that range from beginner to advanced. You will find a breakdown of video related content here:

Okay you lost me at FRAPS, can I do screenshots and make a slide presentation video instead?
Yes, provided you have either voice or text overlays as well to keep it fun and tutorial.

Can you give me some examples of Ultima Online videos?

Didn't Hawkeye Pike put out an awesome video about 6 months ago? It didn't get the attention it deserved.

They should have used his UO Video trailer and put it on the EA site to solicit new players. It was extremely well done!

Now, you might have more participation if you would fix the "Discuss This Article" link (on the UO Stratics News page) so that it wouldn't go to the "Locked" version..... You got our attention, then gave us a "Discuss" link that takes us nowhere. How would anybody know they could look here in UHall for more info?

Not everyone that reads the News page is a seasoned "veteran" of Stratics Forums....

The Contest Forums are set to registered viewers. If this is a bigger obstacle we can look into setting it to read only and registered to submit. I'll give it some thought and discuss it with Petra. Currently it is easier to moderate a submission's content first before set to viewers. Ask the Dev forums are set up in a similar way. I appreciate your suggestions!

This is the first of a variety of contests we hope to host that focus on different interests. A publish like 71 that touched on so many different gamestyles seemed ideal to start with but EM events, RP storylines, PvP & Factions, ect are what I have in mind

Okay but this is going to take me at least 2 months to learn how to make statues and figure out how to mail said statues to the winner. UPS or FedEx might have issues with the weight of it. Does anyone have a real life macro?

While I understand some have the booster and bazaar upgrades already, the spirit of the rewards leans more towards appreciation of time spent. Hopefully whoever wins will find some use and if not maybe host their own contest to pass it on eh? *grins*

I would love to enter this contest..but I'm still a bit hazy on the new changes.

I went out with my Mage/Tamer to do the things I used to do all the time...and noticed that I don't do nearly as much damage with my spells as I used to.

So I went back to read the publish notes....as far as I can tell..Magery/Animal Taming and Eval are included in the skills I can use to get the added SDI.

My armor hasn't changed that much...so what I'm assuming is that I'm going to have to add more SDI to my gear to get the same damage I had before? Is that how this works?

I'm confused - isn't 30 days game time $10.00 to $12.99? Aren't GBP and HSB both $14.99? Shouldn't the 1st prize have a greater value than the second and third?

Does this mean FRAPS is an approved 3rd party application?

While it is not the only video capturing program used, it is one of the most widely known.

The discussion of the value of the prizes has been brought up already. While you may consider game time of lesser value than the other two, the value of the last two has been put into question as well. This is a Stratics run contest and the order of value was placed by me.

I would absolutely consider suggestions for future contests because we want it to be fun and exciting with a well received perceived value.

The GBP would be considered by many to be a booby prize, as nearly all those that wanted the non-vending content probably already bought it (making it desirable more for those that could care less about the majority of the content, but weren't going to pay full price just to get bazaar privileges).

High Seas would be more valuable (many multi-account people didn't get it for all their accounts due to costs, and weren't able to catch the sales) - but it's also been on sale at various times for less than $10, since release.

I think it goes beyond monetary value. Winning a trip worth $5,000 is not as valuable to me as winning a washing machine worth $500. I really need a washing machine. When I return from that trip, I will still need a washing machine to wash all those damn dirty clothes.

If you take the link immediatly above, you'll notice that at the bottom of the post is the familiar "Discuss This Article" link... this link:

Unfortunately, the link immediatly above (the Discuss This Article link) actually takes you to the Publish 71 Content Contest FAQ (a closed link with no "discussion" possible).

That's what I was referring to in my original post.

I'm sure I'm not the only Stratics user that has the UO Stratics News Main page as their "starting point" for all things UO Stratics related. From this page I can see all the "latest" News and have quick access to any/all individual Forums. The ONLY reason that I am able to see and post in this "discussion" thread (this thread) is because I was interested in the contest and video posts regarding UO in general - and - after taking the "Discuss This Article" dead-end, I came here looking to see if anyone was talking about it here at UO Hall.

I'm going to post again regarding some ideas I have, but wanted this post to be addressed separately.

I hope this is clear enough to make my point.

Ahh I glossed over the contest, didn't realize Stratics was giving out the prizes . I thought, if EA held it, could have it so they would put a statuette graphic up as a prize .

But yeah, a lifesize model would be a challenge to make .

Based on feedback here and a few PM's, I asked Petra to make a few changes.

The Contest Forums can be viewed by all and reply in threads however making a post is still set to moderated when entering a video. This allows us to approve it first and jot down contact information on their submission.

If you have any more questions or input this is the first of many contests we have in mind so the earlier we knock out any kinks and make it fun for you all the better!
