[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Ricardo had gotten thinner.

Imprisonment in some forsaken, glorified mine shaft could do that to a man, Avery reflected. Where were they? More importantly, why hadn’t he ever heard of a prison like this?

HANG RICARDO!
Been there, done that, got the fancy shirt :)

Unfortunately, the acid-proof rope they used was made out of wood rather than twine ... they're just waiting for the fishermen to return with some proper rope so they can hang him properly.

The high council of MAPL is split 3-3 on whether Richardo is a hero or villain ... I kept meaning to make a seventh character to split the tie. Avery however has long had a larger following amongst my characters.

The thought that Casca could be a villain raises the uncomfortable question of "if he's a traitor and has had months to purge the lesser members of the court of the kingdom's loyalists, who's left to oppose him? A thief, one guard and a mouse? I know revolutions start small, but our situation is indeed desperate.

*looks around to check how many shadowlord sympathizers are watching*

Hurry up and release SA! When I played Ultima 6, I trained up Sherry so she could use gargoyle boomerangs in each paw! She was a b@d@$$ then and she can be again in UO!

I salute you.

In fact, Sherry will now dual-wield because of this, when she has weapons.

I like Richardo, poor fellow. I'd buy him some icecream.

Galen the character hates Ricardo.

I can just see him participating in a rescue of Avery, and ignoring Ricardo, not preventing him from coming but not helping him either. Ricardo gets crushed by a falling castle gate or something....

Ricardo: *screaming in pain*

Avery: Aren't you going to help him?

Galen: Who?

The majority is written by the design team itself, actually.

Past contributors include me, Leurocian, Kilandra, Wilki - even Jeremy once (although she was in community), and a few others while I've been here.

It's difficult to figure out who the author is unless you reference a particular story; for instance, I do a lot of the main plot arcs, but didn't do the Book of Truth line (Leurocian), or Candle of Love (Wilki).

Since the Herald has a particular submission method, authorship can get mixed up, not to mention that sometimes we write in-character as news reporters for the BNN.

Right now, we've centralized our writing effort so we can deliver a cohesive plotline, and the EMs will be providing their own individual flair to their interpretations.

I am a big fan of an immersive story line in the games I play. I just got through Gears of War 2 and I must say wow that was like playing a movie. That's sort of a requirement of all games I play.

I wonder if the storyline would have been written differently about the destruction of Magencia.... say something like a "this town must be destroyed to "cleanse" it" sort of angle... Well I wonder if folks would have reacted differently about it here on the boards. There was quite a long stir from folks who thought the town should have been defended. I was one of those people at first. Later I realized that it was built to be destroyed and I had a grand time doing it. Not to say it should have been written differently. It got people talking and brought out strong emotion. It was perfect.

But back to my point. The fiction is well written. The words paint wonderful pictures in my head. I appreciate all who took the time to make that detail happen.

Awesome! While you're at it, where's Smith the talking Horse? He should make an appearance around April 1st, I think to offer his typical quests to the heroes of the land.

Out of curiosity, is Britannia anywhere near Narnia?

Righteous story, Draconi. Love seeing Ricardo getting some attention. Cant wait to see where this goes with that damned elf, Casca.

I might be biased ( ;) ) but you should check out that "Partisans" series of stories. They rock!

:( Shameless plug. Ah well.

hehehe ... yes, I always thought there was a hint of Narnia influence in the way the stranger/avatar gets drawn into Britannia.

I like to think of all imaginary worlds exist in some greater metaverse, occassionally leaking into each other (*shakes fist at all the copyright duration extensions*). I always loved the "wood between worlds" idea in The Magician's Nephew

So where do people (or whole guilds for that matter) stand on this whole situation?

Do you consider your characters loyal subjects of the crown? How have your characters reacted since the assassination of the royal council? If you had not heard the little conspiracy, would you have been a supporter Casca? Do you consider the factions in Fel to be related to the politics of Tram? Or do you see them as seperate worlds? (that you may or may not be regularly hopping between)

The war appears to have become intractable, with invasion after invasion crossing over, pummeling the kingdom. How are loyalists to the kingdom coping? Is there a fatigue? Resignation? Resilence?

Are falsehood, hatred and/or cowardice starting to gnaw at your characters? Or have they remained beacons of true virtue?

good to see the mouse is misplaced not lost.

A question for our EA rep's, the other day I caught three of our future EM's role playing a story line in New Haven, now it was dum luck that I happen to recall in at that time to catch this and I was able to join in the story line by chatting with all three.

Now, I like that I was able to join the story line and had fun, but as I said it was blind luck that I was there as there was no announcement of any sort by any means in game to let folks know there was something going on. I would like to be able to be told in game when something is going on, or have some sort of signal lamp set up at the Brit castle or some war room, like on Serpent's Hold, we used to use the green - red gem to alert us, on other shards they used a special lantern, the idea was to let folks know there was something happening and to come.

Are we going to have some sort of alert in game for such events? Or is it going to be blind luck again to join/enjoy such role play?

Yeah....

Heinlein did that for his books, and ended up, by his death, even linking in Oz, the Lensman universe and the Burroughs worlds into his pan-dimensional fiction.

Oh, and if you want to look for copyright chaos in the current timeframe - Popeye's public domain in the EU, but not the US now. Consider what can happen if someone starts cranking out stuff with him and it becomes a phenomenon - there's talk about this on some of the comics & animation forums.

I really like to hear from top EM about my comments above. Will we get some sort of in game alert when something is going on? Or will it be blind luck as above to be near such an event?
