After all these weeks of dealing with this, I feel sure that this was not worth whatever you intended to fix with it!

You don't see as much complaining as belongs here because many active players don't participate in these boards. What is happening is that players are being disgusted and frustrated with this senseless error.

Our pets keep refusing to attack targets. The targets can be right next to the pet and even 2 tiles away from the tamer and it happens.

PLEASE JUST REVERT THIS CRAP AND IF THERE'S SOME ABUSE THAT MOST OF US DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT THIS FIXED, FIND A MORE SENSIBLE WAY TO FIX IT!

kthx

I agree... I'm in full support of monsters obeying LoS checks, BUT the LoS code needs to be fixed.

The LoS code is especially bad in t2a and it effects a lot more abilities than pet control. It makes me really mad when I'm trying to use chain lightning, meteor swarm or teleport in t2a.

Please fix the LoS code. It will fix a lot of broken things.

This is crazy...one or two tiles away...and in line of sight, and we get that message doing Mel, at the far east end.

And there are plenty more places it happens...quite annoying.

Please revert the change...it doesn't help anyone, from what I can see.

At least make the pets pathfind to the target if they can not see it.

I don't use a tamer for anything really but this seems to be a pretty bad problem at the moment. From what I have seen it should have been looked at by now and hasn't.

I am talking about an Archer. I try to target a Satyr that I can see...and that can target me...and I will get that message.

Very frustrating, indeed.

What's bizarre is that in the same situation, if the character that is unsuccessfully giving a kill command to a pet or trying to cast a spell or shoot an arrow at the monster that's two tiles away but can't be seen also has barding skills of some sort, the barding skills still work on the monster. Maybe someone was smart enough to realize sound waves don't necessarily need a direct path to the monster's ears in order to be heard....they can bounce off stuff and also carry through substances.

Monsters and pets spell (and breath attacks) do have sight restrictions etc. but the two catches to this are:

- they cast 2 spells at once, with both spells landing one after the other, and the single line of sight and distance check is what applies to both spells.

- some spells and attacks have a delay between when the monster fires it and the attack actually hits you (the superdragon breath attack is one of them).

So the result is, if the pet started firing off spells or began its breath attack against you, it doesn't matter how far you run after that initial targeting (or what buildings you run around), you're going to take those spells/attacks directly up the a$$. It's not checking line of sight at that point, it's just delivering your pre-arranged goodies.
