Be nice if they put that much effort into production shards where the majority of the players are.
For NL, is it EA that owns the IP, or is it Broadsword?
For Production, is it EA that owns the IP, or is it Broadsword?

What happens if one of the assets is transferred somewhere else?

For Production, what are the contractual obligations between EA and Broadsword?
Are the obligations different for NL?

EA owns the IP. It doesn't matter what rules etc is in place. Broadsword just manages it.

EA owns Uo
EA sends its dying games to Broadsword nursing home to maintain them until death

I think the most we can hope for is that players are right when they say it will be alternating publishes/events.

Sucks, but damn if we aren't used to this split team crap over the years.

I bet a new expansion or "booster" would have brought back more players than NL.

When they first talked about NL more people were against it than for it, nobody asked for or wanted it but they didn't listen.

it just prove once again they are completely out of touch with their player base tone deaf in their little echo chamber of pom pom cheerleaders and they are the only ones playing on NL using multiple accounts to try and make it look busy it died over there same 20/25 plays.

I bet NL will be the death of UO for five years they worked on NL completely neglecting production shards and losing subs for years far more than they will ever gain from NL let alone hold onto them.

I dont see how they spent sooo many years on all that mostly text and new paste and copy quest system. It not like they added new art either it mostly just re hued old art wth have they been doing ?

Free shards are pumping out far more content that players want and ask for.
They listen to the majority of their players that's why they have a larger happy player base.

When you look at what they've done in the last 10 years its surprising not much at all what have we been paying for exactly ?

How about fixing the bugs a new client ?

And now they openly told us no more expansions no more booster and phasing out holiday content but more for NL that is going to be their main focus the new baby

While we on prodo are negated more and more. It will be more of the same ole paste and copy events a couple new items on prodo, while NL gets the most and probably best new content including pets for those special select minority group players that supports that game play style

NL doesn't fit UO at all never will, anyone that wants that has far more better options to go play other games that offer seasonal repeat and rinse bs

We need a new path if we are going to bring back old players let alone new players.

My husband has played since the first day of beta, I've played since 99'. Between us we have 5 accts that have never been inactive. We've gone a few years not playing but always kept paying. Here recently we have finally discussed shutting down our accts due to, quite frank.. Boredom. NL has zero interest to either of us and the lack of new content few and far between on prodo shards has us questioning why keep shelling out the $$. All good things come to an end at some point and I see that for our accts.

@S_S I had 21 accounts I always paid full price direct to EA never use GTC or 90day game,
After seeing what they have wasted so much time on over the last 5 years Im closing 16 accounts and using GTC 1/3 cost and 60-90day from here on out
Im Not wasting money on a game that cant seem to listen to the majority of its players and produce anything worth while on production shards.
So my free time now is closing accounts down instead of having any new content to do in game.

I'm not quite jumping off the deep end @skett . I just came back from a break in December. I hadn't played since 2017. I've got 10 accounts reactivated and am having fun.

I caught the tail end of two large events.

I'm just against splitting our development time and money. I didn't want Siege, I didn't want 3d, I didn't want enhanced, and I don't want NL.

I want high seas boosters, I want more storyline events with crack pixels, I want pvm/pvp adjustments to keep things fresh.

None of that happens at a happy rate for anyone when resources are split.

Minecraft wildly popular it's not about the graphics
I have defended the graphics using Minecraft as an example either on this board or on UO.com, and I have a kid in middle school and a kid in elementary, and Minecraft has, by far, been played more often over the last 4 years in my house than any other game and it's not even close. Our main Minecraft machine has an NVIDIA RTX card, which means Minecraft is not some outdated-looking 90s holdover, but a glorious ray-traced high-resolution beast of a game. We've seen the movie twice.

And I have even mentioned that UO's style of graphics are very popular for certain genres (particularly popular in Asia/Japan, but also here) and you can go on the iOS App Store and Steam and see a lot of examples of either pixel-style art, or the isometric views.

But at the end of the day, it is a problem, both in terms of feeling outdated for many potential players (or former players who bailed for other MMOs), and also in content creation (getting new stuff into the game) and the interface. I'm not going to rehash arguments I made 20+ years ago on the old UO.com forums, nor do I want to start the millionth round of the client wars. The graphics are what they are.

My kids were not drawn to UO for the graphics, they were drawn to UO because they knew I spent a lot of time playing it, that my wife had played it, that I had an entire shelf in a book case devoted to UO, the physical boxes (my son wants to keep my Charter Edition set), the maps, the books (some fantastic Japanese books that never made their way across the Pacific except through eBay), the figures, and various things (UO mouse pads, Origin stuff, etc.).

There's a lot of MMOs out there these days, all kinds of different art styles and perspectives. I don't need a full-3D MMO - I have that with Final Fantasy and WOW to an extent, but I know plenty of people who want something slightly more modern-looking, at least the interface has improved (the EC has come a long way and Pinco's is amazing when it works for us, and ClassicUO is great),. They would be intrigued by the Kingdom Reborn screenshots and models, etc.,

It wouldn't matter if they were 100% devoted to just the regular shards, at the end of the day, it's 1-2 programmers, 1-2 designers, and 1-2 artists. That's barely enough to generate even High Seas-style boosters on a timely basis like we were promised a decade+ ago. I can't imagine how long it took them to make ToL.

I've pondered it a lot, how they could improve a lot of things and go after the MMO players that should be calling UO home, but I keep coming back to they'd have to go down to one client (and it's gotta be a modern interface, even if they allowed you to toggle between graphics), they'd have to double the size of the team, etc.
