UO.com doesn't work for me

I get a blank page this error when accessing UO.com:

PDOException: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) in lock_may_be_available() (line 167 of /myth/html/drupal7/includes/lock.inc).

UO.com redirects to UOHerald, either address works for me (just checked them) so I'm not sure what's going wrong for you - possibly just caught the server while it was maintaining something, or too busy?

Clutching at straws then, but could your firewall/AV have decided not to allow mysql.sock to work?

Edit : Digging around on the web, most common 'reason' for this seems to be your MySQLServer stopping running... but since I know next to nothing about SQLServer, maybe this can help...

Weird .... do you both use the same ISP? Or maybe same AV/firewall that just updated itself? I've tried IE, Firefox and Chrome and no problems at all with either URL, so it looks to me like something 'remote' from the actual EA servers, but I can't work out what.

Interesting ... this PC uses the AVG firewall, and no issues - but I tried my laptop, which uses Windows Firewall, and all three browsers give the same error as in the first post.

I suspect Windows Firewall has updated itself, and as by default it blocks the port MYSQL uses, it's causing grief. I ran this command on the laptop to open the port, and everything now works on it :

netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="MySQL Server" action=allow protocol=TCP dir=in localport=3306

Edit - I'm using XP on both machines, I think the same command will work for Windows 7, but can't test that out....

The uoherald address was changed back to uo.com about 6 months ago.

Yep... brain failure, I got them completely the wrong way round when I typed that...
