The Broadsword Ultima Online Team is very proud to announce the continued support and dedication to our Japanese players. We're investing in our Japanese community and have hired an Assistant Producer fluent in Japanese to help us improve all support and communications. We are also making plans to redo UO.Com so it will be bi-lingual in English and Japanese. It will preserve all of the information currently on the Japanese website. We recognize the value of all the information and will archive it so nothing is lost and will always be available to you. In 2 weeks, we look forward to introducing our newest Assistant Producer team member (natively from Japan!) that will be joining us here at Broadsword in the US!

Stupid question: Does the Japanese UO site no longer have its own "official" message board?

(For anyone who's forgotten, way back when we lost our board, Japan got to keep theirs, because, the team stated at the time, the Japanese player base "tended to be less aggressive" in how they posted, and, thus, it was cost-effective to keep the Japanese boards open whereas for us it wasn't. No I do not have a link to this, it was a really long time ago. And no this wasn't a complaint about "them" having "more" than "us.")

As for EA....... I was just on the Origin store.. 6 items total for the game and not a time card in there....
The account management messed up again and bingo i am out another grandfathered account...
That makes 3 so far they have managed to chew up and spit out.
Beginning to think EA is doing it on purpose.
I am not hurting for the space as all but one was a 7x7... they just had some meaning to me...
And the wonderfull Billing wont except my CC again!!! *counts to 100 and is still steam is coming out of my ears*
Do I call EA or what... idk anymore....
The reoccuring billing shut itself off again

Not a stupid question, and I wish I were sure of the answer. Perhaps one of our Japanese speaking posters can answer that. I strongly suspect though that the answer is 'no'.

All we need is someone able to tell that the posts are relevant to legitimate UO and not 'buy viagra here' or 'visit this freeshard' etc :D

Their official community was closed. I'm working on getting a Japanese (and eventually Korean) translation for XenForo. Most browsers will translate it closely enough, but a proper Japanese version isn't too far away.

We do need a Japanese speaking moderator, though. :(

I think EM Hanarin has been very, very carefully experimenting with setting up a forum for Korean players to help each other with UO-related issues: See http://hanarin.ncity.net/?p=1452 for a summary of several things he has in the hopper for helping to support Korean players and http://hanarin.ncity.net/?post_type=forum for the forums.

Both EM Hanarin and EM Takako in that part of the world are great devoted EMs For sure and if I remeber right both speak the right languages.

what went wrong i have, changed cards had them expire, etc and never had a hiccup?? 5 plus accounts multi accounts turn off on with a few klicks

would offer help if understood why how you are having issues, using US cards, debit or credit and pay as u go credit tried, used all three at store and web site too never a problem!!!!!!!!!!

If Kelmo cannot learn Japanese despite your making him, you also could hire a ninja to moderate.

That way when no one sees it being moderated, you can say "of course you don't see it."

It's ok I got 2 time codes after I yipped at origin I still lost 5 super small very loved homes though. This is the main reason for my request for them to back off the 1 house per account bit. I wouldnt have lost them and you can say i didnt give options for only a small house ether.. Ill miss them but i wont cry over spilt milk. It's just another reason my ties to UO are being cut...

I have been wondering if the new Assistant Producer is Daisuke "Wasia" Maruyama. See this producer's letter from about 4 years ago (http://uo.stratics.com/uoherald/news/news.php?newsid=1031) and this thread that Athos started in December 2009 regarding an interview with a Japanese gamining site regarding UO (http://stratics.com/community/threads/an-interview-with-cal.171994/#post-1536455 ).


Edited to add: It looks like perhaps the online store for Japanese UO players to purchase codes is closing later this month on March 28th (http://ultimaonline.jp/news.phtml?id=91370). And there was an announcement on March 12th on the UO Japan site about the end of support for UO by the UO Japan team (including the website, Help Center, and Twitter channel, but apparently NOT including in-game support) as of March 12th: http://ultimaonline.jp/news.phtml?id=91371 . That would explain why the announcement regarding hiring a new assistant producer was posted in both Japanese and English on the UO.com site. Future announcements will most likely all appear in both Japanese and English, with possibly more convenient/elegant formatting to display notices in both languages to appear later when the new assistant producer has started to work with the website.

It was bound to happen since EA [and as such EA Japan] no longer runs things. But I hope Broadsword doesn't forget that Japan isn't our only non-English speaking region. We still have a Chinese [Formosa] and two Korean shards [Balhae and Arirang] Which need some loving and support as well.
And the UO Chinese and Korean sites were closed down many years ago...I think nearing 9 years now?

With regard to the shutting down of the purchase of UO codes through the UO Japan site, it might be good for someone on the UO dev team to confirm whether or not codes purchased before the shutdown will work after March 28th. The rough Google translation of the announcement that I'm reading says the "browse function of the code" will no longer be available after the store shutdown and to please confirm purchased codes as soon as possible. I'm not sure if that means you won't be able to look at your purchase history to find a code if you lost your e-mail or if it means there won't be any way for the game's servers to verify the legitimacy of those codes when you attempt to use them in-game or for the account management system to confirm legitimacy of codes applied to upgrade accounts. I believe there are some players who do not live in Japan, do not speak Japanese, and don't visit the UO Japan website who have used things like VPN services to make purchases from the UO Japan code store who would like to have this clarified if they are sitting on previously purchased/awarded codes, especially promotional ones that may have only ever been available through that store.

No, our moderators are volunteers (as are all directors, incidentally). However, all staff do receive Stratics Pro benefits for free.

If he or she would like to moderate and write content, he or she might apply for a paid staff writer or editorial assistant role.

For those who don't know, this translates to, "Thanks, GalenKnighthawke. As instructed by my overlady I am now learning Japanese."

I can only assume that the "thanks" is sarcastic (as I am now responsible for giving Kelmo more work) and that the "overlady" is Petra. While that term typically refers to Mesanna, in this context it can only refer to Petra.
