UO Casinos? Good, Bad, or Ugly?

Many threads have been tossed around about in game gold sinks. A UO Casino is not by any means a new idea. Players have even run entire casino night events.

The point of this thread though, is to discuss the merits of the idea, as well as things like:

1. What games would you like to see or would even be feasable?

2. Should there be only one Casino, or as many as, one in every town?

3. Should existing empty buildings be used, or should there be a whole new area cleared and a casino built from the ground up?

4. What kinds of prizes would you like to see?

5. what are the potential problem you forsee?

Maybe if we can get a good constructive thread and ideas, the devs might take a serious look into it.

I have read the UO boards for years, and the player base is amazing with it's creativity.

Dice, Roulette, standard type games

2. Should there be only one Casino, or as many as, one in every town?
More than 1, but not in every town

3. Should existing empty buildings be used, or should there be a whole new area cleared and a casino built from the ground up?
Use existing buildings, it's not like they are used for much now.

4. What kinds of prizes would you like to see?
typical prizes. It would be more of a social thing than just for gambling.

5. what are the potential problem you for see?
Again the usual. Hookers, eventually the Mob/Politicians.

Maybe if we can get a good constructive thread and ideas, the devs might take a serious look into it.

but ... since a flat NO, will likely not suffice; some counter points to consider.

Why try to enter an existing Lash-up of swirling grey fog?

and ... aside from recent tax policies ... theres STILL the confusion of generating/buying "the chips" with which one might expect any games to be "played" with *sigh* scritters/dupers/scammers ...

personally ... work on real Skyhooks would benefit humanity more.

I figured that since the idea is for a gold sink, we would use in game gold. Vendors allow you to draw directly from your bank box, so too could Casino dealers.

Casinos in UO would be one of the best additions of all time period. I really don't care how they go in if they ever go in it would be great.

I wouldn't mind seeing a few casinos at least maybe not one per town but a few for variety would be excellent. It would also be nice if some casinos offered games others did not to keep players frequenting different locations to play.

Themed casinos are a must.

I'd like to see cribbage. That has good odds and is why it is not played in casinos. They would rig it so more gold leaves than what the odds suppose, and it is way too complicated to be implemented. Stick with increased hp and increased properties/skills etc. Stick with dyeing things purple and calling them something else. That is the league we are in. Stick with Nightmares being called Warhorses. That kind of thing.

Would no one else like to see this? I for one would love it. Something to do for 15 min or so, if one only has a few minutes to pop into the game.

Something that occurs to me is that it's very easy to never lose at some casino games and I'm not sure that they could code in precautions for it. In which case it would have the opposite effect.

(Not that I get the whole concept of players deciding we need gold sinks in the first place)

5. Ok for adult rated game, but foresee troubles ahead if teen rated and rl funds involved. ERSB and IRS come to mind.
