Universal Translator needed.

hey all have any of you been to a house where everyone was talking french or some Asian toung? I have and I know thier being good hosts they always feed always serenadeing thier guest and keeping chat alive but man would I love to join in with the chat going on lol, cant you Devs create a Type of Universal Translator? a tool that will just simply Translate what everyone is speeking regardless of the language that isnt your own? Just a thought.

Should be a fun and good add to the game with all the new players..
but I think there is a tread about this already? Or am I mistaken?

You know, it would be a step in the right direction if we could copy to clipboard from room chat. At least then we could use our own translators. It would be handy, in general.

It shouldn't be impossible though

There is Babelfish already where you can type in a sentence or a website and get it translated to another language. The translation sucks ofc but it's possible to understand what they mean... Sort of...

Too bad EA can't just use Altavista and build a translator device to the game, but maybe they could have some sort of agreement to use their translation service, like make a gadget for it or something

Whenever I tried Babelfish, the translation was harder to interpret than the phrase I was trying to translate.

There are games out there that have in game universal translators. SL (I believe someone mentioned this one a few weeks back) and SWG (hubby has a friend who speaks Japanese and it gets translated into Amer. English or whatever language your comp is set up to interpret). I'm no Dev, so I can't possibly guess how simple or hard it would be to implement some sort of code (device) like that.

But it sure would be nice to have that technology ingame. I had a bear of a time using Babel Fish, to chat with some newbie Brazilians one night. Good thing I'm a fast typer.

Wouldn't wanna miss out on meeting some cool ppl from other parts of the world because of a language barrier.

The EA website has a "language translater" meaning you can select the language for the page. Can't they take that, make some modifications and use that to give us the ability to be able to chat to those from other parts of the world?

Yes I remember it, I believe Niki King started it, and Niki was asking for multi-lingo poeple to help out, but it is a bunch of pages back.

I think it would be cool to have a universal translator in game.

Well, if as they say we will be able to script our objects in the future, like we can in Second Life, then it would be possible.. Though going from what other ppl say, I doubt this is the kind of scripting they will let us do. We can only hope.
