Its a moot argument in any case as a Shard merger is highly unlikely as it is just too contentious and would disgruntle too many folk. Weve seen already on this thread how insular and defensive people get when its even suggested.

Pretty much how Europe is set up in RL, most of our towns/cities are partnered or 'twinned' with places in other countries

I play on both, but if i had to choose which shard to play, then Drachs wins hands down, the players may not all speak the same langauge but they are all really nice, helpful and friendly, I wish i could say the same for other shards

They may not have the most people but they have the best.

I choose quality over quantity

For what it's worth - the day someone says "Drach is going to close, you have to move" - I'm gone. And it doesn't matter if they transfer all my characters together with banks and houses and everything else.

If the idea behind merging two shards is to produce a shard better than both, then we should define the qualities of an ideal shard first. This way, we can discuss if merging two shards would get us a step closer to this ideal shard where everybody wants to play. I highly doubt that the number of players is the only factor for peoples' understanding of an ideal shard though.
