Alira's left thumb moved in tight circles as it pressed hard into her temple. Manicured nails rested lightly on her forehead as she rested her elbow upon her desk as she closed her eyes. The pain was distracting as it pounded against her skull. It had started a week ago, the pain was intermittent but she suspected the frequency had been slowly increasing. She was under a lot of strain and stress with recent developments. To counter the undercurrent of tension she had spent more time soaking in the hot waters and in mediation, but still the headaches came and went.
She opened her blue eyes and took out a quill, ink and paper to start the task Merek had requested of her. Her thumb massaged her temple as she began to write with her right hand. Time passed as sentences were written, crossed out and new text inserted. The silence was interrupted by a knock at the door. The quill paused briefly at the sound as she was not expecting someone. Probably a kine needin' something mundane... they ne'er seem t'grasp the need o' appointments. she decided silently. "Come in..." she spoke aloud as her quill began to move again. As the door opened, her eyes flickered upwards to take in whom had disturbed her. Merek stood in the doorway before moving inside and shutting the door behind him. Alira halted her writing. That was one of the last she'd expect to come by unannounced, especially since they had finished a meeting with Casandra within the last hour. She put the quill down and removed her other hand from her forehead. "Governor..., " she said as she gestured to his choice of seats across from her desk. "W'at can I do t'help ye?" she inquired. She smiled as she sat back in her chair.
Merek sat down with a nod, "I sat in my office alone, an odd thought crossed my mind..." He paused for a long moment as Alira arched an eyebrow at his words. His arm twitched before he continued, "Perhaps I did not need to be alone..." A twitch of his hand as his voice paused again, "Company does not always have to be bad..." His lip twitches a bit as a slight smile struggles to his lips . The surprise was obvious on her face for a brief moment before she composed herself. Her blue eyes looked to the seldom seen smile on his lips and then back to his eyes. "So... if it pleases you, perhaps I will remain here... if you too would like the company?"
"Yer company is always welcome... I jus' do nay wish t'keep ye from more important matters..." she said, still attempting to recover from being caught off guard.
"There are none currently that you are not aware of... " he said as his shoulder twitched. "How comes your missive?" he asked.
His question led to an answer. She picked up her quill to continue working as she countered with a question of her own. An' so it went back and forth as the hours passed for both of them in the company of each other.
